Online media personality will advocate for affordable access to golf for young people and amplify awareness of the nonprofit’s largest charitable initiative
(PEBBLE BEACH, Calif.) – Youth on Course — the non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the landscape of golf and the lives of young people through opportunities on and off the golf course – has named golf influencer Roger Steele as an official ambassador.
“Youth on Course is doing amazing work in providing opportunities for kids to learn and grow through golf,” says Steele. “I’m passionate about making the game more inclusive and accessible, starting by making it more affordable for kids in every community. Youth on Course shares the same mission and I’m excited to be a part of the team and to help make an impact.”
Steele joins LPGA stars Jennifer Kupcho and Lizette Salas, as well as PGA TOUR player Harold Varner III, as an ambassador for Youth on Course. In this role, Steele will help advocate for the organization’s mission of bringing life-changing opportunities to young golfers across the globe to create a more inclusive and diverse future for the sport.
“Roger is an important voice in golf and we’re thrilled to have him as an ambassador for our organization,” says Adam Heieck, CEO of Youth on Course. “His commitment to growing the sport and opening doors for kids across the country is inspiring, and we’re proud to work with him to further that mission.”
A key focus of Steele’s advocacy will be to raise awareness for the organization’s 100 Hole Hike initiative, a unique charitable event that challenges golfers to play and walk 100 holes of golf in one day while fundraising through pledges for each hole they play. Steele and members of “Team HIPE” will participate in the hike at Sweetens Cove Golf Club in Tennessee on June 29, 2022. Steele and his team raised over $60,000 for Youth on Course as a part of the 2021 Hike at the Dunes Club in New Buffalo, Michigan the longest 100 Hole Hike in the organization’s history walking a total of 31 miles.
In addition to collaborating on the 100 Hole Hike, Steele will interact with Youth on Course members and produce video content that showcases the stories of Youth on Course members whose lives have been put on a different trajectory thanks to affordable access to golf.
Operating across North America, Youth on Course has more than 130,000 active members. Since 2006, juniors have played more than 1.8 million subsidized rounds of golf while the organization has helped generate more than $8 million in tee-time revenue reimbursed back to individual golf courses. In addition to subsidized rounds, Youth on Course puts their members’ lives on a different trajectory by providing off-course growth and learning experiences including paid internships, a caddie program, and nationwide scholarships, with more than 300 students awarded with college scholarships to date totaling more than $2 million awarded through the scholarship program.
