(MONTEREY, Calif.) – Youth on Course — the non-profit organization ensuring all youth have access to play, work, and learn through golf – has announced that Valerie Wilson McCarthy of Nantucket, MA and Greg Rhine of Los Gatos, CA have been appointed to its Board of Directors.
McCarthy and Rhine will join 14 other passionate professionals in upholding the organization’s core purpose to provide youth with access to life-changing opportunities through golf.
“I am thrilled to have Valerie and Greg join our team of professionals on the Youth on Course board,” says Youth on Course Board Chair, Kathy Wiggans. “Valerie brings with her extensive nonprofit and finance experience, and Greg has had a multitude of leadership roles during his career in Silicon Valley. Together they will add decades of experience to the board and I look forward to working with them.”
McCarthy has served as Executive Director of Pets In Need, a regional animal shelter based in Palo Alto, CA and is now working for Harvard Law School’s Animal Law and Policy Group. Before committing herself to animal welfare work, Wilson McCarthy had a long career in tech, first as an investment banker at Robertson Stevens and then with several venture backed start-ups. She has previously been a member of the board of Positive Coaching Alliance, a national non-profit focused on teaching life lessons through youth sports, where she also served in a full-time role as Director of Development. She is currently on the board of Pets In Need and the Sankaty Head Foundation which provides jobs, character-building opportunities, and life skills to youth through a caddy camp in Nantucket, MA.
Says McCarthy, “Sports have been transformative in my life and I look forward to continuing giving back as much as possible by helping our team extend more access and opportunity to young golfers.”
Rhine is a proven executive and leader who has partnered with CEO’s and entrepreneurs in large public and pre-IPO companies. He has held leadership roles with Logitech, SanDisk, Apple, Palm and HP, where he was responsible for global sales, operations and supply chain, product management, marketing, direct to consumer/e-commerce, customer support and business development. Rhine currently serves as a Member of the Board of Directors for the Northern California Golf Association and Poppy Holding Inc., as well as Chairperson, Board of Trustees, for The Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, CA.

Operating across North America, Youth on Course has 140,000 active members who receive affordable access to play golf at nearly 2,000 courses across North America. Since the organization’s inception in 2006, members have played more than two million subsidized rounds of golf. In addition, Youth on Course puts their members’ lives on a different trajectory by providing off-course growth and learning experiences including paid internships, a caddie program, and nationwide college scholarships.
