CLEARWATER, FLORIDA – There is nothing else in golf quite like the feeling of standing on a Zen as it moves and, in January, British sports technology firm Zen Golf stunned PGA Show 2025 delegates with an emphatic demonstration of how to move the ground professionally in golf.
At the Show, hundreds of PGA professionals and indoor golf specialists experienced Zen’s silently-moving playing surfaces, attracted by the ability to offer limitless breaking putts and ever-changing fairway slopes to their customers.
Among them was Tim Cusick, Zen owner and Head Coach at the PGA of America Coaching Center.
He said: “We get a lot more engagement using a Zen Green Stage. I can’t tell you how much traffic we’ve had on our Zen Green in the last year and a half, and it still looks the same as the new one on this booth.”
Others agreed. “Without a doubt Zen Green Stage has been the best investment I have ever made” said Phil Kenyon, leading Tour putting coach and Zen owner since 2016.
Zen’s far-sighted approach has enabled it to create a significant golf industry milestone in creating the definitive way to make gradient safe, accessible and affordable for a new era of coaching on more realistic ground conditions.
The golf industry is now transitioning rapidly into a ‘moving floor’ era where a Zen enhances other technology by helping to unlock huge amounts of new data, just by shifting the ground.
With a Zen underfoot golf coaches can cure common swing faults more quickly, and players can more easily acquire the unique skills needed to adapt to real-world fairways and greens.
On the Zen booth Dr Scott Lynn, biomechanics consultant to players and coaches on the PGA Tour, gave a demonstration on how Zens can be used with force plates, and said: “Of all the tools I’ve previously used, nothing changes the numbers like the Zen Swing Stage does in one single shot. The combination of Swing Stage and Swing Catalyst is now where the magic lies.”
Many who visited Zen’s booth remarked upon the performance differences between the Zens, and other adjustable playing surface brands.
“At this year’s PGA Show, people were circulating around multiple similar booths, standing on their moving platforms, and then coming to the Zen booth” said Zen’s Andy Hiseman. “The differences they reported in quality, feel and robustness were astronomical.”
He continued: “In 2025 the golf industry is embracing adjustable playing surfaces faster than ever before.
“Zen makes what is widely viewed as the definitive moving platforms, and we were delighted and humbled by the reaction we received at January’s PGA Show.”
Other leading coaches also gave demonstrations on the Zen Golf booth.
“I own a lot of different toys, and I can safely say that the Zen Swing Stage has had the biggest positive impact on my coaching of anything that I’ve invested in over the last five years” said Zen owner Liam Mucklow, founder and Elite Coach at The Golf Lab.
Tour putting coach and Zen owner Preston Combs said: “By creating different putts on the Green Stage I can deliver a highly personalized and effective session, and quickly identify the key focal points for each player.”
The Zen Golf booth was designed to facilitate demonstrations of the most advanced overhead putting projection system technology for elite coaching, including the SAM PuttStudio and the Quintic Overhead Putt Tracker.
“The introduction of the Zen Green Stage has revolutionized the coaching that we do” said Zen owner Dr Paul Hurrion of Quintic. “It provides effectively infinite different putts. With the innovative combination of Quintic and Zen I can now create a controlled, data-driven environment to quickly diagnose and correct a player’s performance issues when disrupted by slope.”
Andy Hiseman continued: “Zen is years ahead of the competition in solving all major technical challenges which you face when moving the ground. Crucially, Zen is the most accurate and most reliable safety-certified solution, and we are light years ahead in terms of the amount of movement and the robustness a Zen offers, as well as in the digital capabilities of the system, including its programmability and its ability to integrate with other mainstream golf technologies.
“Our mission is to provide the best value for money, as regards moving platforms. When you’re buying new technology, the real value lies in having a fully- functioning system that delivers maximum uptime – and Zen leads the industry by some distance in both cases.”
Following the PGA Show, Zen has engaged with customers in dozens of countries around the world as the global golf industry assesses the gulf in quality between Zen’s moving platforms, and other products.
“There is quite rightly a lot of positive language out there now, from multiple brands, about how controllable gradients lead to better coaching, and a more enjoyable golf experience” said Hiseman.
“However, if you zone out the marketing hype – and, as always, there is plenty of that going on – just go and stand on their product. Ask them to adjust it beneath your feet, see how the ball rolls, push the platform to its maximum gradients, ask the tough questions about movement, accuracy, reliability, longevity, safety and quality.
“And then come and use a Zen. You will be astonished at the difference.”
