Attendees Can Win Free Tickets and Have Their Photos Taken with the PGA’s Prestigious Wanamaker Trophy
CHICAGO, Ill. (January 17, 200) – The 2006 PGA Championship at Medinah Country Club – one of golf’s four major championships – will be the focal point of this year’s 23rd annual Chicago Golf Show coming up Feb. 17-19 at the Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont (www.chicagogolfshow.com).
The PGA of America, which conducts the PGA Championship, will display the Wanamaker Trophy at its exhibit booth and has generously offered to allow show attendees to get their photos taken with the prestigious cup, according to golf show operator Tom Corcoran.
Pronounced "WANNA MAKER," the Wanamaker Trophy is presented each year to the winner of the PGA Championship. The base of the trophy is inscribed with the names of past winners, including defending champion Phil Mickelson, Tiger Woods (who won at Medinah in 1999) and dozens of other golf legends.
Show attendees will have the opportunity to win free tickets to the PGA, the season’s final major scheduled for Aug. 14-20, Corcoran said. A limited number of the hard-to-get tickets also will be available for purchase at the Chicago Golf Show.
"Once again, we are very excited to bring to Chicago area golfers the nation’s biggest and best consumer golf show," Corcoran said.. "We’re doing our best to make the show attractive to everyone."
The Chicago Golf Show has reclaimed its traditional February dates following two years in March.
The Chicago Golf Show also will feature its traditional mix of fun and interesting golf attractions, including the latest new clubs, a variety of golf seminars, free one-on-one lessons, information on golf vacations, opportunities to get free or discounted golf rounds at local courses, information on local tournaments, and hourly door prizes.
The Chicago Golf Show is the oldest and largest golf show in the nation. Supported and sponsored by the Illinois PGA, the show typically attracts between 15,000 and 20,000 visitors and features more than 300 exhibitors, including golf equipment manufacturers, vacation destinations, golf courses, tournaments, golf associations, antique club collectors and a host of others.
Those who attend can hit the newest clubs at the show’s Impact Zone, a 26-station indoor driving range; find bargains on new golf clubs; win door prizes, such as free clubs and free golf vacations, and compete for prizes in various golf contests.
One of the top attractions is the Golf Academy Main Stage, where some of the game’s more renowned instructors conduct hourly seminars to help golfers learn more about how to improve their own golf games.
In addition to the large-group seminars on the Main Stage, the instruction program includes individual full-swing and putting lessons courtesy of Illinois PGA members at the show’s indoor practice areas, which feature a large putting green.
Other traditional golf show favorites will be back again this year, too. Attendees who sink an 80-foot putt at the Long Putt competition can win great prizes, as can the winners of the Long Drive Contest, which is conducted indoors with an electronic distance monitor.
Among the prominent golf associations and tournaments that will be at the show are the Chicago District Golf Association, the Western Golf Association, which conducts the Cialis Western Open; the Illinois Junior Golf Association and the PGA Nationwide Tour’s LaSalle Bank Open.
The PGA Championship is conducted by the PGA of America, a nationwide organization of golf professionals. The Illinois Section of the PGA is a key supporter of the Chicago Golf Show.
