VISTA, CA – January 19, 2006 – La Jolla Club Golf Company today announced that shareholder, Greg Nelson, has taken controlling interest in the company. Nelson is now the majority owner and chairman of the company.
"My goal is to build a solid company and concentrate our efforts on the junior and ladies markets" said Nelson. "I’m committed to taking the company to a leadership position in both of these categories."
Nelson, a retired entrepreneur, served as the athletic director and executive director of the Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad before co-founding Don Joy Orthopedics out of his garage in 1980. He sold the company that now trades on the New York Stock Exchange and in 1989 co-founded another orthopedic equipment company, Breg. He sold Breg in 2003 and is now a private investor.
Nelson, who grew up spending time at the Boys & Girls Club, has been a strong supporter of programs that benefit juniors. He and his wife, Barbi recently donated $1 million to the fund-raising campaign to build a new Boys & Girls Club of Carlsbad. In addition, Nelson and his wife have supported junior golf in San Diego for the past several years.
La Jolla Club offers junior clubs for ages 2-17 in 7 different sizes and over a dozen different calibrated shaft options, including its popular Snoopyï?¤ clubs for toddlers. As part of its campaign to grow the junior and ladies business, the company has introduced a new line of Knife Junior Sets, redesigned its Super Flexï?¤ Junior and Teen Sets and expanded its line of Lady Accent Elite clubs.
The company first introduced Super Flexï?¤ junior shafts with "2-in-1" combination grips and heads back in 1991. As the shafts get shorter, they are more flexible, unlike cut-down adult shafts. The patented fitting system allows juniors to have two clubs in one. For instance, on the 5/6 combo club, there is a long and short section of the grip and markings to show the junior where to grip to determine whether the club will hit like a 5-iron or a 6-iron.
La Jolla Club Golf Company, a Vista, California-based golf equipment company, designs, manufactures and markets premium juniors and ladies golf clubs including Super Flex Junior and Teen Sets, Knife Junior Sets, Snoopy 1st Real Clubs and Lady Accent Elite golf clubs. The Snoopyï?¤ line is the top selling brand in junior golf, and features multiple product lines for different age groups. Lady Accent Elite clubs were created specifically for women.
