MALVERN, Pa. — (April 6, 2005) – Ukee Washington, the popular morning and noon news anchor for CBS-3 television in Philadelphia, has returned to his post as honorary chairman of the 3rd Annual Divine 9 Open Celebrity Pro-Am golf team championship at White Manor CC. As always, he will lead an impressive list of celebrities in the charity event.
The event, founded by Jeff Dittus to honor the memory of his father, longtime White Manor member Mort Dittus, raises funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. To date the golf tournament and subsequent auction raised more than $290,000 for the charity.
"Last year just blew me away," said Washington, who brings a long list of his friends from television, radio, sports and entertainment to the event. "Everybody got into the spirit of the event. The golf was great and the party afterwards was even better. I think we are all committed to making it bigger and better this year."
In addition to the afternoon celebrity event, a pro-am event is held in the morning. Some of the best professional golfers from the Philadelphia area compete with teams of amateurs for the pro-am title. In addition to the golf there is an evening event which includes cocktail party, silent and live auction, tournament awards, and live music.
Spots still remain for amateurs wishing to play in the morning Pro-Am shotgun or the afternoon Celebrity-Corporate shotgun. To reserve a spot or for more information on the tournament or evening event, call the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society office at 610-521-8274 ext. 228, or go to the website at www.divine9open.org.
