MARLBOROUGH, Mass. April 18, 2006 – When golfers enjoy the perfect blend of comfort and stability from their golf spikes, they can focus all of their attention on winning tournaments. Just ask the champions of the PGA Tour’s Verizon Heritage and the LPGA’s Takefuji Classic in Las Vegas. The Verizon winner outlasted a field full of past major champions in Hilton Head to claim his first PGA Tour title. Meanwhile, the winner on the LPGA Tour led the tournament wire-to-wire and finished at 19-under par for a three stroke victory. Along the way, she tied her own course record with a 63 on Thursday and missed the overall tournament record by only one stroke.
CHAMP spikes are building a tremendous following on the both the PGA and LPGA tours in 2006. CHAMP has now claimed an astonishing nine consecutive wins on the PGA Tour, while the majority of women on the LPGA opt for CHAMP every week. The CHAMP Stingerâ?¢ is the overwhelming choice of champions. In total, 36 players at the Verizon Heritage trusted the Stinger. Designed with input from thousands of professional and amateur golfers from all over the world, the Stinger features superior traction and a revolutionary visible wear indicator that lets golfers know when it is time to change their spikes. In addition, at least another 12 golfers at the Verizon Heritage trusted the Pro Stingerâ?¢ from CHAMP. The Pro Stinger is a half-plastic /half-metal hybrid, which offers professional golfers the security of a metal spike with the comfort and many of the course-friendly qualities of non-metal spikes.
With this victory, CHAMP now owns 11 out of 16 PGA Tour titles and two victories on the LPGA Tour in the 2006 season, to go with three Champions Tour wins and three victories on the European Tour.
Last season, 24 winners on the PGA Tour wore CHAMP spikes.
