In the month to 15 April 2006 the Golfalot Price Index, which tracks the average price of golf equipment from UK retailers, fell by 2%. As the golf season finally got under way in the UK, many retailers came out with special offers on older models as the newer ranges hit the shelves. The biggest fallers were trolleys and drivers, both of which fell by over 4%. The former was due to more expensive models leaving the market and the latter due to price cutting on older models from some of the big brands. Fairways and wedges made up the rest of the decline with falls of over 2% each. Utility clubs continued their recovery with a 1.4% increase, but the best performing category was golf balls with a 3.2% increase as new premium products from Nike and Callaway reached the stores.
Prices have now fallen by 3% in the last 2 months as more retailers stock up with new products and the poor golfing weather took its toll. Now the Masters has signaled the start of the UK golf season, we would expect retail prices to at least hold their level over the next couple of months, despite the tough retail environment.
The Golfalot Price Index tracks the prices of the latest model(s) from each manufacturer are chosen as they reach the market so the models tracked always reflect pricing on what the serious golfer wants, the latest technology. Prices are taken from Golfalot.com’s market leading golf equipment price comparison service which tracks all the prices every day from every major UK golf retailer with a national pricing policy.
