Mary Allan, president of the Seattle Chapter of EWGA, said the local group invites women who want to learn to play the game along with experienced golfers who want to sharpen their skills to join members during the weeklong observance. "One of EWGA’s main objectives is to motivate and educate women to utilize golf for personal growth and corporate enhancement by creating opportunities to bond, network and enjoy the game of golf."
Cheri Brennan, the chapter’s liaison for the American Express Women’s Golf Week, said the program was developed in response to input from golf industry leaders who want to grow the sport of golf. "We’ve organized a variety of fun and affordable golf and social activities to introduce women to EWGA and some of the opportunities we provide for learning the game, developing skills and meeting other women golfers."
About EWGA
Founded in 1991, the EWGA exists to provide opportunities for women to learn, play and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life. The not-for-profit association has more than 20,000 members in 115 chapters across the U.S. and Canada. Three joining options are available starting at $90 annually.
A recently released study by the PGA of America indicated the economic impact of an EWGA chapter is $577,000 in annual golf related spending, using an average chapter size of 163 women. (For Seattle, with 350-plus members, that translates to an economic impact of more than $1.4 million.) The PGA’s study, reported in its Play Golf America annual report, found that EWGA members spent an average of $3,993 on golf fees, lessons, equipment, and food and beverage in the past 12 months. About two-thirds of the membership (63 percent) also reported annual spending of $2,212 on golf-related travel.

Go Red For Women provides women with tips and information on healthy eating, exercise and risk factor reduction, such as smoking cessation, weight maintenance, blood pressure control and blood cholesterol management. All funds raised go to support the women-specific and women-related initiatives of the American Heart Association, including awareness, research, education and community programs for heart disease among women.
