Titleist Ambassador Captures Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf by Five Strokes
Titleist ambassador Jay Haas posted an eagle and three birdies on the back nine Sunday to pull away from the field and win the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf by five shots. Haas closed with a 5-under 67 to finish at 15-under 201, a new 54-hole record for the event, to earn his third career Champions Tour title.
In addition to the Pro V1 golf ball, Haas relies upon a full bag of Titleist golf clubs, including the new Pro Titanium 905R driver, Pro Trajectory 904F 3- and 5-woods, prototype utility wood, Forged 690CB irons, Vokey Design sand and lob wedges and a Scotty Cameron by Titleist Laguna Midslant putter.
Haas finished ahead of fellow Titleist ambassador and co-runner-up Peter Jacobsen who opted for the Pro V1x golf ball, Pro Titanium 905R driver, Pro Trajectory prototype 3-wood, Forged 704CB irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron prototype putter.
Following his victory, Haas credited his success, in part, to his switch to the new Pro Titanium 905R driver: "I switched to the Titleist 905R driver last week and that seemed to help me. I felt comfortable and capitalized on it by hitting some clutch drives. I made a lot of putts, too. You have to do that to win tournaments out here."
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the event with 35 of the 49 (71%) players trusting their game to the Pro V1 or Pro V1x, compared to nine for the nearest competitor. Titleist golf ball players have won 7 of the first 8 events on the 2006 Champions Tour.

Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Shell Houston Open by an overwhelming 122 to 13 margin, more than nine times nearest competitor … 7 of the top 10 finishers trusted Titleist golf balls for their success, including runner-up Bob Estes (Pro V1), and full-line Titleist Staff player Steve Stricker (Pro V1) who closed with a 66 to finish third … Titleist was also the choice of more players in the iron (34), wedge (115) and putter (62) categories.

Titleist full-line staff player Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano (Pro V1, Pro Titanium 905S driver, Forged Forged 690MB irons, Vokey Design pitch, sand and lob wedges) birdied the first playoff hole to capture the BMW Asian Open in Shanghai, China … The win was the second of Fernandez-Castano’s PGA European Tour career … Fernandez-Castano was runner-up at last week’s China Open … Titleist golf ball players accounted for 81% of the field at the BMW Asian Open with 126, over 8 times the nearest competitor with 15 … Fernandez-Castano’s victory is the 13th for Titleist players on the PGA European Tour, more than six times the nearest competitor with 2.
LPGA: Sung Ah Yim relied upon the Pro V1x golf ball en route to capture the Florida’s Natural Charity Championship for her first career victory … Yim finished par-birdie on the final two holes for a 16-under 272 total and a two-stroke win over three of the world’s top-ranked competitors, including Pro V1 player Cristie Kerr … Pro V1 players Juli Inkster, Suzann Pettersen and Hee-Won Han tied for fifth three shots back … Of the 144 players in the field, 115 (80%) played Titleist golf balls compared to 15 for the nearest competitor.

WORLDWIDE VICTORY COUNT: With four more golf ball victories this week, Titleist advanced its win count across the worldwide professional tours to 45, more than four times the nearest competitor with 9.
