Pebble Beach, Calif-More than two dozen women convened in mid-June for a women’s golf summit hosted by NCGA director of education, Gail Rogers. The summit, held at the NCGA offices at Poppy Hills Golf Course, welcomed a select group of key female leaders from the Northern California golf industry. The "Who’s Who" list also included Susan Reed, editor of Golf for Women magazine.
Summit participants discussed a variety of topics concerning recruitment and retention of women golfers. The two-day event included group discussion, special presentations on industry trends and lively dialogue surrounding the growth of the game and its related initiatives. Prior to arriving, all participants were asked to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats to women’s golf. The compiled information served as a springboard for in-depth discussion that proved positive, energetic and insightful.
"The summit was an unqualified success," exclaimed Rogers. "We brought together a diverse group of golf-savvy women who recognized the value of collaborative thinking and the importance of developing a master plan for women’s golf within the region." According to Rogers, the group will convene again in the fall of 2006 and will focus on areas that encourage growth opportunities for women and girls golf in Northern California.
Given the success of the summit, representatives from other allied golf organizations such as the GCSANC, CMA and CGCOA will be included in the 2006 fall meeting. In addition to the Northern California Golf Association, the summit had the support of Golf for Women, an industry-leading magazine with a circulation of more than 550,000, that remains committed to promoting women’s golf.
