Steinhauer Wins Women’s British Open, Leads Titleist to Four-Win Week.
Sherri Steinhauer earned her second career LPGA major by capturing the Weetabix Women’s British Open at the famed Royal Lytham & St. Annes links course. Steinhauer, who shot a final round even par 72 to finish at 7-under 281, was four strokes clear of two players, including fellow Pro V1 golf ball loyalist Cristie Kerr. It is the seventh career LPGA Tour title for Steinhauer and the third time she has won the Weetabix Women’s British Open. She twice won the event before it was designated as one of the four LPGA majors in 2001.
Overall, Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Weetabix Women’s British Open with 113 players, more than five times the nearest competitor with 22. The win was the 12th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2006 LPGA Tour, four times the nearest competitor with 3.
U.S. PGA TOUR: The winner of the Buick Open fired four consecutive 66’s to finish at a season-low 24-under 264 and with a career-high 28 birdies en route to a three-stroke win. It marked his second title at the event, his fourth victory in 11 events this year, and gave him 50 wins for his PGA Tour career. For each of those victories and throughout his illustrious professional career, the winner has relied upon a Scotty Cameron by Titleist putter for his success.
The win marked the 17th for Cameron putters this year on the PGA Tour, more than four times the nearest competitor with 4.
Titleist Pro V1x player Joe Durant finished solo third following a final-round 67. Sean O’Hair (Pro V1x), and Pro V1 loyalists Vaughn Taylor and Scott Verplank shared fourth place, while Tom Pernice, Jr. (Pro V1x), Brett Quigley (Pro V1), Woody Austin (Pro V1x) and Harrison Frazar (Pro V1x) tied for seventh, as 8 of the top 10 finishers trusted Titleist golf balls.
Overall, Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Buick Open by an overwhelming 121 to 11 margin, 11 times the nearest competitor.
Titleist was also the choice of more players than any other brand in the iron (41), wedge (129) and putter (59) categories.
PGA EUROPEAN TOUR: Titleist ambassador Robert Karlsson (Pro V1x, Pro Titanium Pro Titanium 905R driver, PT 906F2 3-wood, Forged 735.CM irons, Vokey Design sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Scotty Cameron Newport 2 putter) advanced to a playoff at the EnterCard Scandinavian Masters, finishing runner-up following the second extra hole. Karlsson, who shot a course record 63 in the third round, was seeking his second consecutive title after winning The Players Championship of Europe last week. Karlsson finished regulation play at 10-under 278, a stroke better than fellow Pro V1x player Richard Sterne.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Scandinavian Masters with 131 players (82%), more than eight times the nearest competitor with 15.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: Pro V1x player David Edwards earned his first Champions Tour title in just his 11th career start, winning the 3M Championship by two shots. Edwards fired a final round 5-under 67 which included five birdies in a six-hole stretch from Nos. 8-13. Edwards, who trailed by as many as five strokes during the final round, finished with a 12-under 204 total.
Tom Kite (Pro V1) finished with a 64, the lowest final-round score in tournament history, to tie for fourth at 9-under with Gil Morgan (Pro V1x).
Overall, Titleist was the most played golf ball at the 3M Championship by an overwhelming 58 to 12 margin, more than four times the nearest competitor. The win was the 17th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2006 Champions Tour, more than eight times the nearest competitor with 2.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: Titleist staff player Johnson Wagner (Pro V1x, Pro Titanium 905R driver, Pro Titanium 904F 3-wood, Forged 695MB irons, Vokey Design sand wedge and Spin Milled lob wedge, Scotty Cameron prototype putter) shot a final round 8-under 63 to claim his second victory of the season at the Cox Classic. With the win, Johnson jumped to the top of the Nationwide Tour Money List and secured status on the 2007 PGA Tour. Wagner finished with a 21-under 263 total, four strokes clear of runner-up and fellow Pro V1x player, Craig Bowden (Pro V1x).
An overwhelming 20 Titleist golf ball players were among the top 21 finishers on the leaderboard, including nine of whom relied upon a full bag of Titleist golf clubs as well.
Overall, Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Cox Classic with 120 players (77%), more than 10 times the nearest competitor with 11. Titleist was also the choice of more players than any other brand in the iron (45/23%), wedge (149/44%) and putter (64/41%) categories.
The win was the 15th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2006 Nationwide Tour, more than seven times the nearest competitor with 2.
JAPAN TOUR: Titleist was the golf ball of choice at the Sun-Chlorella Classic with 67 players, compared to 29 for the nearest competitor. Titleist was also the wedge (54) of choice for more players than any other brand.
CANADIAN TOUR: Calgarian Wes Heffernan defeated full-line Titleist player Brock Mackenzie on the first hole of an all-Pro V1x playoff at the Casino de Montreal Open for his first career victory on the Canadian Tour. Heffernan birdied the 18th in regulation and again in the playoff for the win.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Casino de Montreal Open with 134 players, more than 19 times the nearest competitor with seven.
WORLDWIDE WINS: Four more golf ball wins this week advances the Titleist victory total across the worldwide professional tours to 103, more than six times the nearest competitor with 17.
