Dedicated to providing serious golfers with high performance equipment that sets the standard for ball flight, shot control, feel and playability, Titleist introduces the tour-inspired and tour-proven PT 906F2 fairway metal and PT 585.H utility metal families.

The PT 906F2 fairway metals, which are available in 13, 15 and 18 degree lofts in both right- and left-handed, complement the spring introduction of the popular Pro Titanium 905R driver line, the most played 460cc driver on the PGA Tour. PT 906F2 fairway metals have been played by the winners of five PGA Tour championships already this year, including the U.S. Open and the WGC-Accenture Match Play champion, and the EDS Byron Nelson Classic winner, who relied upon both the 15 and 18 degree models. Arron Oberholser and Ben Curtis played the 15 degree model in their victories at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am and Booz Allen Classic, respectively. Ben Crane, Ernie Els, Brad Faxon, Robert Gamez, Lucas Glover, Bill Haas, Mark O’Meara, Adam Scott and Steve Stricker are also among the more than 45 PGA Tour players who have put a PT 906F2 in play this year.
"The PT 906F2 was born from extensive ground-sole contact research with the world’s best players," said McGinley. "It is a sole design and performance story, utilizing an innovative Multi-Relief Sole design that allows for crisp, solid contact from a variety of turf conditions."
The Multi-Relief Sole minimizes turf resistance and ensures that ground sole contact remains forward, toward the leading edge of the sole. Maintaining a forward impact point improves directional control and ball flight by reducing the potential for the club to bounce or skip into the ball. Additional features and benefits of the PT 906F2 include:
– Optimized Sole Weighting: Repositions the CG farther forward, closer to the face for less draw bias than prior generation fairway metals.
– Dynamic Face Closure: Reduced for a neutral ball flight that allows the player to dictate shot shape.
– Larger Face Area: Particularly in the heel and toe, increasing the effective hitting area for greater forgiveness and playability.
– Square Set-Up: A perfectly square face angle delivers the confidence and versatility better players demand.
– Multi-Material Construction: A softer 431 stainless steel body provides a sweet, solid feel while a 275 Carpenter steel face insert creates maximum ball speed over a larger face area.
– Bore-Thru Design: Positions the tip of the shaft lower and closer to the hitting area for better feel and greater stability at impact.
– Tour-Inspired Appearance: Features a highly accepted pear-shaped profile, gloss black finish, white full-length scorelines and a raised crown logo for a contemporary look.
The stock shafts for the PT 906F2 are the Titleist 4375 Fairway (77g), Aldila NV 75 Fairway (77g), and UST Proforce V2 85 Fairway (90g). The stock grip is the Titleist Tour Velvet Rubber. A full matrix of additional shaft and grip choices is available through Titleist Custom.
The Titleist PT 906F2 fairway metals will be available in golf shops beginning August 15, 2006, with a MSRP of $200 for steel and $250 for graphite.

Titleist makes its foray into the Utility Metal category with the introduction of the PT 585.H. The new PT 585.H utility metals blend the best playing characteristics of fairway metals and long irons to provide greater versatility and shot making options from the tee, fairway and rough. Developed with the input from Tour professionals, the new PT 585.H offers fairway metal-type launch with a flatter ball flight for iron-like control. Prior to market introduction, Titleist utility metals already rank second in usage among all players on the PGA Tour.
"The PT 585.H has been played as a prototype for several months with great success across the worldwide professional tours, with PGA golf professionals and better amateurs," said McGinley. "During that time we welcomed and implemented the feedback we received from these discerning golfers and we are now confident that this is the best utility metal for the better player."
The PT 585.H is offered in loft specifications of 17, 19, 21 and 24 degrees, allowing for precise long game gap fitting, potentially replacing the 2, 3 or 4-irons, or 4- or 5-woods. The sleek, compact teardrop shape and non-offset design features a perfectly square face angle for a confidence-inspiring appearance. It also provides the ideal trajectory and shot control preferred by better players for greater accuracy. A wider sole with a deep center of gravity (CG) promotes a higher initial launch and greater distance than a comparable long iron, while the non-offset hosel produces a straight flight with a lower peak trajectory than traditional fairway metals for superior control. Included among the other features and benefits is:
– A softer 431 stainless steel body: Provides a sweet, solid feel while a large 455 stainless steel face insert creates maximum ball speed over the entire face area.
– 20g Tungsten Weight: Located in the sole, the weight pushes the CG low and deep for a fairway metal-type launch and distance with greater control.
– Modified Bore-Thru: Removes weight from the heel to optimize the CG location in the center of the club face for maximum energy transfer. A polymer Neutralizer pin dampens vibration for outstanding sound and feel.
– Wide, Shallow Face: Offers a larger hitting area than comparable long irons for greater playability and confidence.
– Contoured Sole: Provides heel and toe relief to minimize ground resistance and promote crisp, solid contact from all types of lies.
The stock shafts for the PT 585.H are the Aldila NV 85 Hybrid and Titleist 4175 in graphite, as well as the Dynamic Gold S300 in steel. The stock grip is the Titleist Tour Velvet Rubber. A full matrix of additional shaft and grip choices is available through Titleist Custom.
