Dean Wilson Leads Titleist Sweep with First Career Win at The International
As event after event concluded across the four major professional tours in action this weekend, the winner’s circle became filled with players trusting Titleist golf balls for their success. Victories on the PGA, PGA European, LPGA and Nationwide Tours advanced Titleist’s worldwide win count to 117, that’s 100 more than the nearest competitor. The sweep featured playoff victories by Dean Wilson at The International for his first career PGA Tour title and full-line Titleist staff player Simon Dyson at the KLM Open. Cristie Kerr and Kevin Stadler rallied for one stroke wins at the Canadian Women’s Open and Xerox Classic, respectively. Four tours. Four victories. One ball. Continued proof that when it comes to superior performance, Titleist is winning the world over.
PGA TOUR: Pro V1x player Dean Wilson earned his first career PGA Tour win with a birdie on the second hole of a sudden-death playoff at The INTERNATIONAL. Both playoff participants finished regulation with 34 points in the Modified Stableford scoring sytem format. Wilson started the day in seventh place, five points behind the overnight leader, and posted seven birdies and a bogey.
Full-line Titleist staff professional Daisuke Maruyama (Pro V1x, Pro Titanium 905S driver, PT 906F2 fairway metal, Forged 695CB irons, Vokey Design approach and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Futura putter) and Steve Flesch (Pro V1) tied for third place with 32 points.
Of the 12 players who finished among the Top 10 and ties, 9 relied upon the superior performance of Titleist golf balls. Following Wilson, Maruyama and Flesch on the Titleist leaderboard were Bubba Watson (T6/Pro V1x), Jeff Brehaut (T6/Pro V1x), Nathan Green (9/Pro V1), Rod Pampling (Pro V1x) and Titleist ambassadors Ernie Els (T10/Pro V1x, Pro Titanium 905R driver, PT 906 prototype 3-wood and PT 906F2 5-wood, Forged 695MB irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron prototype putter) and Brett Quigley (Pro V1, Pro Titanium 905R driver, Pro Trajectory 904F prototype 3-wood, Forged 704CB irons, Vokey Design sand wedge and Spin Milled lob wedge, Scotty Cameron prototype putter).
Overall, Titleist was the most played golf ball at The INTERNATIONAL by an overwhelming 110 to 10 margin, 11 times more than the nearest competitor. Titleist was also the choice of more players than any other brand in the iron (33), wedge (106) and putter (58) categories.
The win was the 18th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2006 PGA Tour, 10 more than the nearest competitor with 8. The winner also relied upon Vokey Design approach, sand, lob wedges for his success.
PGA EUROPEAN TOUR: Titleist full-line staff player Simon Dyson (Pro V1x, Pro Titanium 905R driver, PT prototype 3-wood, Forged 690MB irons, Vokey Design approach and lob wedges) birdied the first playoff hole to win the KLM Open.
Dyson closed with a 5-under 66 to finish regulation with a 14-under 270 total. Third-round leader Damien McGrane (Pro V1) was one shot back in third place at 13-under.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the KLM Open with 126 players (81%), more than seven times the nearest competitor with 16.
The win was the 23rd for Titleist golf ball players on the 2006 PGA European Tour, nearly four times the nearest competitor with 6.
LPGA TOUR: Titleist golf ball players swept the top five positions at the Canadian Women’s Open, led by Cristie Kerr (Pro V1) who overcame an eight-stroke deficit to win by one stroke. Kerr shot a bogey-free 7-under 65 in the final round and finished the week with a 12-under 276 total for her eighth career title. Third round leader Angela Stanford (Pro V1) finished one shot behind Kerr, followed by Pat Hurst (3rd/Pro V1), defending champion Meena Lee (4th/Pro V1x) and Jee Young Lee (5th/Pro V1x).
Overall, Titleist was the most played golf ball at the CN Canadian Women’s Open with 122 players, more than five times the nearest competitor with 21.
The win was the 13th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2006 LPGA Tour, more than four times the nearest competitor with 3.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: Kevin Stadler (Pro V1x) shot a final round 5-under 65 and finished the week with a 9-under 271 total to win the Xerox Classic by one stroke. It was the third career victory for Stadler, who hit 12 of 14 fairways and 17 of 18 greens during the final round.
Overall, Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Xerox Classic with 115 players (74%), over 100 more than the nearest competitor with 13.
Titleist was also the choice of more players than any other brand in the iron (46), wedge (148) and putter (65) categories.
The win was the 16th for Titleist golf ball players, eight times the nearest competitor with 2.
U.S. WOMEN’S AMATEUR: The 14-year old winner from Hilo, Hawaii, relied upon the Pro V1x golf ball to become the event’s youngest champion. The winner did not lead in the 36-hole final until the 30th hole when she went 1-up. She trailed by as many as five through the first 15 holes. Earlier this year, the U.S. Women’s Amateur champion was runner-up in the Women’s Amateur Public Links final, and then made the cut at the U.S. Women’s Open.
Titleist was the golf ball of choice at the U.S. Women’s Amateur by an overwhelming margin of 138 to 8, more than 17 times the nearest competitor. Titleist was also the choice of more players than any other brand in the driver (39/25%) and wedge (119/33%) categories.
