St. Augustine, Fla. (Aug. 16, 2006) – The World Golf Hall of Fame will unveil a special exhibit in honor of The 2006 Ryder Cup on Friday, August 25 at the museum in St. Augustine, Fla. The exhibit, "A Tribute to The Ryder Cup," will feature stories of Hall of Fame members who have participated on or captained Ryder Cup Teams over the years. The exhibit will remain on display through early 2007.
The exhibit will provide a historical overview of The Ryder Cup, including the origin of the contest, scores, venues and captains, and video of significant Ryder Cup moments. From wartime contests of the 1940s to the story of Jack Nicklaus and Tony Jacklin’s "Concession" in 1969 and comeback prediction by Ben Crenshaw (U.S. Captain) in 1999, the exhibit will look at significant moments in the history of the competition through the achievements and artifacts of the Hall’s members.
"The strong support we received from the Hall of Fame members when we began developing this exhibit underscored the deep sense of pride they feel in having participated in The Ryder Cup over the years," said Jack Peter, Sr. Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Hall of Fame. "We are grateful for their assistance, and that of The European Tour and PGA of America, so we are able to share these great stories with the museum guests for the next several months."
Several Hall of Fame members have donated or loaned nearly 100 personal artifacts for the exhibit, including Billy Casper, Ben Crenshaw, Raymond Floyd, Tony Jacklin, Tom Kite, Bernhard Langer, Gene Littler, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and the family of Payne Stewart. Items from 2006 Inductee Larry Nelson also will be on display.
The exhibit was conceptualized and built in tandem with a traveling Hall of Fame exhibit currently on display in Ireland, where The 2006 Ryder Cup will be played September 22-24, 2006 at The K Club, outside of Dublin, Ireland. The traveling exhibit, titled "The World Golf Hall of Fame and Waterford Crystal Present: A Tribute to The Ryder Cup," is on display at the National Museum of Ireland – Decorative Arts & History at Collins Barracks in Dublin through the end of September. Following the showing at the National Museum of Ireland, the exhibit will be on display at the Waterford Crystal Visitor Center in Kilbarry, Waterford, Ireland through Summer 2007.
