Five-Win Week for Titleist Players Across Worldwide Professional Tours
Titleist was the most played golf ball at The PGA Championship, the year’s final major, by an overwhelming 103 to 19 margin. In fact, Titleist golf ball players accounted for 11 of the top 15 finishers, including runner-up and 2003 PGA Championship winner Shaun Micheel.
Following Micheel on the leaderboard was Titleist ambassador Adam Scott who relied upon the Pro V1, as well as the Pro Titanium 905R driver, PT 906 prototype fairway metal, Forged 695MB irons, a prototype utility iron, Spin Milled sand and lob wedges and a Scotty Cameron putter. Scott finished in a three-way tie for third that also included Pro V1x player Luke Donald.
Titleist players rounding out the Top 15 included: Mike Weir (6th/Pro V1x), full-line Titleist Staff player Steve Stricker (T7/Pro V1, Pro Titanium 905T, PT 906F2 fairway metal, PT 585.H utility metal, 755 irons, Vokey Design sand and lob wedges), U.S. Open champion Geoff Ogilvy (T9/Pro V1x), Ian Poulter (T9/Pro V1x), Ryan Moore (T9/Pro V1x), Chris DiMarco (T12/Pro V1), Sean O’Hair (T12/Pro V1x) and Tim Herron (T14/Pro V1x).
Titleist was also the choice of more players than any other brand in the iron (37/24%), utility iron (5/25%), wedge (125/38%) and putter (53/34%) categories at the PGA Championship. A strong second in the driver category with 41 players, Titleist was led by the Pro Titanium 905R, the #1 460cc driver model on the PGA Tour. Titleist was also second in the utility metals category with 11, sparked by the introduction of the new PT 585.H.
For the third consecutive major and the 17th time this year on the PGA Tour, a Scotty Cameron by Titleist putter was played by the winner. One month after capturing the British Open, the now three-time PGA champion credited his putting in large part of his success this week.

PGA EUROPEAN: Spain’s Alejandro Canizares shot a final round 6-under 66 to win the Russian Open for his first career victory in just his third start on the PGA European Tour. Led by the 22-year-old Canizares who set a new tournament scoring record with a 22-under 266 total, the top five finishers all relied on Pro V1x golf balls. David Drysdale finished runner-up, four shots behind Canizares, followed by defending champion Mikael Lundberg and Gary Murphy who tied for third, and Leif Westerberg, who finished solo fifth.
Titleist was the overwhelming golf ball of choice at the Russian Open with 100 players, or 90 percent of the field, and 20 times the nearest competitor with 5. The win was the 24th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2006 PGA European Tour, four times the nearest competitor with 6.
LPGA: Pat Hurst shot a final round 4-under 68 to capture the Safeway Classic by one shot over Jeong Jang and Kim Saiki. Hurst finished at 10-under 206 to earn her fifth career LPGA Tour title. Juli Inkster was two shots back in solo fourth, as Pro V1 loyalists secured the top four positions on the leaderboard.
Overall, Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Safeway Classic with 106 players, more than five times the nearest competitor with 21. The win was the 14th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2006 LPGA Tour, more than four times the nearest competitor with 3.
CHAMPIONS: Tom Kite birdied the first extra hole to defeat Keith Fergus in an all-Pro V1 playoff at the Boeing Greater Seattle Classic. It marked Kite’s ninth career Champions Tour title, including his second this season. Kite fired a final round 6-under 66, while Fergus countered with an 8-under 64 as both players finished regulation at 15-under 201. David Edwards (Pro V1x), Tom Jenkins (Pro V1), Wayne Levi (Pro V1) and Don Pooley (Pro V1x) were among five players who shared third place one shot back. Jenkins fired a final round 61, matching the course record set a day earlier.
Overall, Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Boeing Greater Seattle Classic with 60 players, which was 77 percent of the field, and six times the nearest competitor with 10. The win was the 18th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2006 Champions Tour, compared to 2 for the nearest competitor.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: Pro V1x player Craig Bowden shot a final round 8-under 63 to rally from seven shots back and win the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic in a playoff. Bowden finished eagle-birdie on the final two holes of regulation to tie the overnight leader at 16-under. He made par on the first playoff hole to earn his third career victory, move into No. 2 on the Nationwide Tour money list, and guarantee a return trip to the PGA Tour in 2007.
Bryce Molder (Pro V1x, Pro Titanium 905R driver, Forged 695CB irons, Vokey Design sand wedge and prototype lob wedge) and Brad Adamonis (Pro V1x, Pro Titanium 905R driver, Forged 704.CB 5-9 irons DCI B 3-4 irons, Vokey Design Spin Milled sand and lob wedges, Scotty Cameron Circa 62 putter) finished tied for third, one shot out of the playoff.
Overall, Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Northeast Pennsylvania Classic with 115 players (74%), more than seven times the nearest competitor with 16. Titleist was also the choice of more players than any other brand in the iron (39/25%), wedge (122/37%) and putter (59/38%) categories.
The win was the 17th for Titleist golf ball players, more than eight times the nearest competitor with 2.
ASIAN: Chinarat Phadungsil won the Crowne Plaza Open in a three-way playoff that included fellow Pro V1x player Prom Meesawat. It is the 17-year-old’s second victory in 10 months after he became the youngest champion ever on the Asian Tour at the 2005 Double A International Open. Phadungsil, who made par on the second playoff hole for the win, birdied his final hole in regulation to finish at 16-under and join the playoff.
WORLDWIDE WINS: Titleist golf ball players have accumulated 112 victories across the 2006 worldwide professional tours, more than six times the nearest competitor with 18, and more than all other golf balls combined.
