ATLANTA – August 23, 2006 – World Golf Hall of Fame members Lee Trevino and Raymond Floyd have committed to play in the Georgia-Pacific Grand Champions Championship at Hawks Ridge Golf Club on Sept. 8-9.
The Georgia-Pacific Grand Champions Championship will feature 16 players who qualified based on their standing on the Grand Champions money list, plus two sponsor’s exemptions, competing in a 36-hole stroke play event.
"Lee Trevino and Raymond Floyd are truly two of the ‘legends of golf’," said Alan Thielemann, Georgia-Pacific’s vice president – marketing. "With more than 90 victories between them, they’re both still fierce competitors and fan favorites. We are delighted to have Lee and Raymond play in our championship."
With 29 Champions Tour wins, Trevino ranks second all-time in that category. Trevino also has 29 PGA TOUR wins, including two PGA Championships, two U.S. Opens and two British Opens.
Floyd has 14 Champions Tour victories and 22 PGA TOUR wins, including two PGA Championships, a U.S. Open and a Masters title.
Trevino and Floyd sit in 12th and 16th place, respectively, on the 2006 Grand Champions money list.
In addition to Trevino and Floyd, other Grand Champions who have committed to the event are (in order of their position on the money list): leading money-winner Mike McCullough, Bruce Summerhays, Dave Eichelberger, Graham Marsh, Jay Sigel, Tom Wargo, John Jacobs, J.C. Snead, Bob Eastwood, Mike Hill, John Bland, Jim Colbert, Jim Dent and Vicente Fernandez.
Sponsor exemptions were extended to former British Open winner Bob Charles and two-time PGA champion Dave Stockton.
The Georgia-Pacific Grand Champions Championship features players age 60 and over competing for a $400,000 purse, with $85,000 going to the winner. Mike McCullough won the Championship last year at Hawks Ridge.
