Family-Friendly Sunriver Resort Readies For 8th Annual Holiday Celebration
SUNRIVER, Ore., Aug. 31, 2006 â?¦ Sunriver Resort, one of the most magical places in the Western U.S. to personally experience the true spirit of the holidays, has unveiled its schedule of events for the eighth year of Traditions, which again showcases an incredible range of more than 150 family-oriented activities and events beginning Thanksgiving weekend and continuing through New Year’s Day 2007.
A special area of Sunriver Resort, a perennial AAA Four-Diamond property that is part of the Destination Hotels & Resorts (DH&R) family, will again be magically transformed into the North Pole and host several Traditions events geared for all ages. Complete with horse-drawn sleigh rides, hot beverages, holiday music and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, Traditions is ushered in the evening after Thanksgiving in grand style with the popular Grand Illumination event. The night is capped with an audience countdown and the breathtaking lighting of the Resort, Central Oregon’s biggest display of holiday lights. "An impressive kickoff of the holiday season," is how one writer, who experienced Traditions 2005, put it.
Among the favorite events returning for 2007 are Sugarplum Storyteller, featuring stories of Santa Claus, sugarplums and snowmen; Breakfast with Santa; Teddy Bear Tea; and Elf Tuck-Ins, each sure to warm the hearts of children and entertain the entire family. For those who truly want to set the holiday mood, the resort will be offering free sleigh rides for its guests from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 25-26, Dec. 2-3, 9-10 and 16-24.
"Traditions attracts families — kids, teens, toddlers, grandparents — like no other program I’ve ever seen," writes Tammie Thompson, a Northern California-based travel writer, in an article titled Family Tradition is Alive & Well in the Mountains. "Designed to bring generations together, the program is packed full of festivity and fun — resulting in a bit of traditional cheer that can get overshadowed in our fast-paced, gadgetized world. There’s no doubt that a visit to Sunriver Resort will bring home some tradition to you family."
Commemorating the resort-wide celebration of the holiday season, Sunriver Resort is offering a special Traditions lodging package starting at $109 per night with accommodations in the resort’s beautifully renovated Lodge Village rooms. (For the Traditions lodging package, note that some restrictions apply, certain blackout dates are in place, and tax and assessments are not included in the $109/night price.)
In addition, through Dec. 21, children ages 12 and under (with one paying adult per child when lift ticket is purchased at Sunriver Resort’s front desk) will receive a free single-day lift ticket to nearby Mt. Bachelor Ski Resort, the 9,065-foot mountain featuring 70 downhill runs for skiers and snowboarders alike.
Moreover, for those families booking one of Sunriver’s selection of more than 400 private vacation homes and condominiums during Thanksgiving or Christmas may take advantage of the free "Turkey- or Ham-to-Go" offer, where guests will enjoy a full dinner with all the trimmings, plus dessert.
Holiday dining has long been part of the Sunriver experience and this year will be no exception. A Thanksgiving Feast and Christmas Day Dinner will be served in both the historical Great Hall and Meadows at the Lodge restaurant, while a Christmas Day Brunch is scheduled for the Meadows.
Of course, the Resort is planning a Thanksgiving Feast, Christmas Day Brunch and Christmas Day Dinner at its restaurants (either Meadows at the Lodge or The Great Hall or both).
Sunriver Resort’s Fort Funnigan program has long been a hit for children ages 3-10 and this year’s Traditions will feature such kid-friendly events as "Top Pick Fridays," "Pajama-Rama Party," "Holiday Fun Factory," "Clown School" and "Balloonology 101." Plus, a "Stuff-Your-Own-Bear Workshop" is scheduled eight different times throughout the holidays. Special teen activities are slated as well, including a "Sports Night" and a "Mt. Bachelor Tubing Trip."
For the willing, the annual Polar Bear Plunge with an icy splash in the Resort’s unheated Lodge Village Pool at 10 a.m. on New Year’s Day can be experienced by guests. Fittingly, hot chocolate will be served in a souvenir mug for the daring. Later that day, guests can pull up a chair at the Owl’s Nest Pub and enjoy a full slate of the college bowl games (as well as nachos, the house specialty) that will be prominently featured on the pub’s array of televisions.
