MARIETTA, Ga. – Entries are now being accepted for the 15th annual Georgia Senior Four-Ball Championship, which takes place November 15-17 at Lakes at Laura S. Walker in Waycross and Okefenokee Country Club in Blackshear. This event is open to two-man teams of male amateur golfers who are GSGA members, Georgia residents and are age 55 or older as of November 15.
The format of the event is 54 holes of flighted, four-ball stroke play over three days. The field consists of the 48 teams with the lowest combined USGA Handicap Indexes making up the championship flight. The remaining 48 teams will be determined by lottery and divided into four separate flights. Alpharetta’s Don Marsh and Larry Clark of Kennesaw, who recently captured the 2006 Georgia Senior Championship, won the championship last year. The duo fired rounds of 66, 65 and 73 to take the event by two strokes over Frank Perry of Fayetteville and Mike Jackson Sr. of Martinez. Lakes at Laura S. Walker and Okefenokee Country Club co-host the Georgia Senior Four-Ball Championship for the third time having hosted last year’s event and the 2002 championship.
Qualified players may enter online at the GSGA website (www.gsga.org) by clicking the Online Registration quick link. Paper entries are available by request and may also be downloaded as a PDF file via the GSGA website. The deadline for entries is Wednesday, October 18 at 5:00 p.m.
Also, entries will be closing on September 13 for the Atlanta Amateur Match Play Championship as well as the Georgia Women’s Team Championship. The 85th annual Atlanta Amateur Match Play takes place October 5-8 at White Columns Country Club in Alpharetta. This event is open to male amateur golfers who are GSGA members and Georgia residents. The format of the event is 18 holes of stroke play with the low 31 players and the event’s defending champion advancing to match play.
The Georgia Women’s Team Championship takes place October 17-18 at The Hampton Club on St. Simons Island and is open to two-person teams of female amateur golfers who are GSGA members and Georgia residents, with a maximum handicap differential of eight strokes. Players must also be 18 years old by October 17. The format of the event is one round of flighted, four-ball stroke play and one round in a scramble format.
Entry periods are also currently open for the Georgia Team Championship (through October 4).
