Scottsdale, AZ (Sept. 13, 2006) – Grace Park, winner of six LPGA Tour events including the 2004 Nabisco Championship, returns to competition this week in the SK Solux Invitational in Korea. She plans to resume her full LPGA competition schedule next week at the Longs Drugs Challenge in Danville, CA.
"It’s unfortunate that I’ve missed a large part of this season," said Park, whose last event was the McDonald’s LPGA Championship in June, "but I really needed the time to get over nagging back and neck injuries and find my game. I’m eager to get started again at last."
Park, 27, missed just seven cuts in 99 starts in the 2002-2005 seasons. In January 2005, Park suffered a back injury that hampered her throughout the year. The injury resulted in Park’s first winless season in her 6 years on tour. Early this year, a neck injury further limited her ability to play effectively and compete at her typical high level. She missed six of her first eight cuts and finally decided to take a much-needed hiatus immediately following the McDonald’s LPGA Championship on June 11.
After intensive rehabilitation and working with her longtime instructor, Peter Kostis, to sharpen her skills in preparation for the remainder of the 2006 season, Park is confident moving forward.
Following the Longs event, Park is planning to play the Corona Morelia Championship and the KOLON-Hana Bank Championship Presented by SEMA Sports in Korea in October and The Mitchell Company Tournament of Champions Presented by Kathy Ireland in November. As she did last year, Park will serve as captain of the Lexus Cup Asia team in Singapore in December.
