LAKE MARY, FL – Timacuan Golf & Country Club will host a fund raising event to benefit the City of Sanford River walk project on Sunday, November 5th, 2006.
A 1 p.m. best ball tournament, followed by a dinner buffet will be held at Timacuan Golf & Country Club, one of Florida’s top-ranked courses located in Lake Mary, just north of Orlando.
The event will be held in conjunction with the Lake Mary/Heathrow Arts Festival and sponsored by The Boat Tree, the largest Central and North Florida premier boat dealership for all of your boating needs. There will be a hole-in-one contest courtesy of the Boat Tree, offering anyone who makes the shot a brand new Regal 1900 Bowrider. The Regal 1900 Bowrider is the only 19 foot bowrider with an award winning, patented FasTrac hull design, great as a family boat or an all around Sportboat.
Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the ARTYgator project, a community art project, producing 60 to 100 six foot tall, fiberglass sculptures, designed and created by artists, sponsored by business, organizations or individuals and placed in the public for the community to enjoy. The ARTYgator project is a public/private partnership between the ARTYgator fusion project, St. Johns River Alliance and the City of Sanford.
The ARTYgator project was created to provide high quality and unique art to the public, give artists an opportunity to showcase their talent and creativity, involve the community, increase tourism and visitors, foster economic development, provide awareness of the St. Johns River and support nonprofit projects.
For more information on the tournament, contact Jennifer Martin, Marketing Manager, Boat Tree at 407-422-8141, or e-mail at jennifermartin@boattree.com.
ABOUT TIMACUAN
The Timacuan community and club are located off Rinehart Road near State Road 46-A in Lake Mary. Timacuan is ranked among the top courses in all of Florida. Designed in 1988 by Ron Garl and refurbished by Bobby Weed in 1995, Timacuan is a par 71 that features two distinctly different nines.
Prior to starting work on the layout, Garl spent time in Scotland studying Links-style architecture, and that research is very evident on Timacuan’s front nine. Sprawling bunkers, generous landing areas, oversized, undulating greens, and framing mounds combine to create a challenging and memorable nine holes.
The back nine has more of a Carolinas Low Country feel, with beautiful oak trees and tall pines providing the framing. One large body of water comes into play on 15, 16 and 17, demanding accuracy.
Nearly every green complex has closely-mown fringe areas, allowing for a variety of shot selections when players miss the green. And speaking of the greens, they are consistently among the best conditioned putting surfaces in Central Florida.
"Timacuan is a semi-private golf club with a private-club feel," Johnson. "Our visiting guests receive the same first-class treatment as our members. That’s one of the reasons we see the same players return year after year during the season. They seem to love the service, and the uniqueness of the layout at Timacuan."
