WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – In the wake of hot summer temperatures, the mere thought of playing golf in a sweater will come as welcome news to those who take advantage of Colonial Williamsburg’s winter golf package.
The historic property’s "Sweater Weather" discount package, available Dec. 1 through March 15, 2007, provides for golf at the award-winning Golden Horseshoe Golf Club as well as four nightly lodging options (rates per person, per night):
$99 for the Woodlands Hotel & Suites
$129 for Colonial Houses (26 restored and reconstructed 18th-century homes)
$159 for Providence Hall at the Williamsburg Inn
$219 for a deluxe room at the Williamsburg Inn’s historic main building
The Golden Horseshoe Golf Club ( www.goldenhorseshoegolf.com ) offers a pair of 18-hole gems: the Gold Course, originally designed by the famed Robert Trent Jones Sr. and renovated by his son Rees Jones (6,817 yards from the championship tees), and the Green Course, a Rees Jones layout (7,120-yards from the tips). GOLF Magazine, in its September 2006 issue, ranked the Gold Course No. 48 on its "Top 100 Courses You Can Play" for 2006-07. In 2007 the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club will host the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championship.
Other features of the "Sweater Weather" package include unlimited range balls, a 15 percent discount on sweaters in the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club’s pro shop and unlimited play on Spotswood, the resort’s nine-hole course, also designed by Jones Sr. The package has no minimum stay requirement.
