West End, NC–Rachel Uremovich of Hilton Head Island, SC and McCuen Elmore of Cheraw, SC are the 2006 Carolinas Junior Players of the Year. Joining Uremovich on the All-Carolinas Girl’s Team are Abby Bools of Hickory and Eleana Collins of Pinehurst, NC. Also on the All-Carolinas Boy’s Team are Jacob Burger of Orangeburg, SC and Wesley Bryan of Chapin, SC.
Uremovich, a 16 year old high school sophomore, captured the 2006 girl’s player of the year award by winning the S.C. Junior Match Play Championship, The Blade Junior Classic and the Twin States Girl’s Championship along with being the runner-up in the S.C. Junior Girl’s Championship.
Elmore, a 17 year old high school senior, earned the 2006 boy’s player of the year award by finishing second in the S.C. Junior Championship and the S.C.
Junior Match Play Championship, finishing third in the CPGA Westfields Junior Championship and tying for sixth place in the Carolinas Junior Championship.
Elmore, who will play collegiate golf with Clemson University, won the award by
2.5 points over Burger.
Burger, a 16 year old high school junior, earned his place on the All-Carolinas Team by winning the S.C. Junior Championship, finishing tied for third in the S.C. Junior Match Play Championship and in second place in the Carolinas Junior Championship. Bryan, also a 16 year old high school junior, earned his place on the team by tying for fourth place in the S.C. Junior Championship, tying for fifth place in the S.C. Junior Match Play Championship and qualifying for
the U.S. Junior Amateur. Elmore, Burger and Bryan each represented the
victorious Carolinas junior team in the Carolinas-Virginias Junior Team Matches.
Bools, an 18 year old freshman at East Carolina University, took advantage of her last summer of junior golf by winning the CPGA Westfields Championship, finishing tied for fifth place in the N.C. Junior Championship, tying for second place in the Carolinas Girls’ Championship, in fourth place in the N.C.
Trusted Insurance Junior and tying for fourth in the Twin States Girls’
Championship. Collins, a 16 year old high school senior, earned her place on the girl’s team by winning the N.C. Junior Championship and the Carolinas Girl’s Championship and finishing third in the N.C. Trusted Insurance Junior Championship. Uremovich and Collins both represented the triumphant Carolinas girls’ team in the Mid-Atlantic Challenge Junior Girls’ Team Matches.
The All-Carolinas Junior Team and Player of the Year awards are a nine week, eleven-event series of junior tournaments run by six associations that are the grassroots of junior golf in the Carolinas. The three leading points recipients in each division (boys and girls) will be invited to the Carolinas Golf Association’s Annual Meeting and Golf Night on February 9, 2007 at the CC of South Carolina in Florence, SC. where the All-Carolinas Junior Team and Players of the Year will be recognized.
