www.GolfLasVegasNow.com reveals that Nicklaus, Trevino and Woods are just a few of the legends to win pro events at the historic Las Vegas golf course.
Las Vegas, NV—www.golflasvegasnow.com, Your Link to Las Vegas Golf, is covering golf in Las Vegas from every angle. And the comprehensive Las Vegas golf course website features Las Vegas National Golf Club, the home to champions, as one of its official Las Vegas golf course partners. The course has played host to more than 20 PGA Tour and LPGA Tour events including two Tournament of Champions events on the PGA Tour, and six LPGA Championship events, among others.
Frank Beard won the 1967 Tournament of Champions, and Don January won the 1968 event. In order, from 1961-1966, Micky Wright, Judy Kimball, Wright again, Mary Mills, Sandra Haynie and Gloria Ehret were the champions of the LPGA Championship events.
"Las Vegas National is a must play for anyone visiting Las Vegas," says John Hilker, American Golf Corporation, Regional Director. "The course is very traditional in layout and you can feel the history from the moment you walk onto the property. You must position your golf ball off the tee in order to attack the treacherous greens, or the multitude of steep-faced white sand bunkers will make you pay."
The golf course has enjoyed several different names over the years including the Stardust Country Club, Sahara-Nevada, Sahara Country Club, Las Vegas Hilton Country Club and now Las Vegas National Golf Club. The course was the host of the Sahara Invitational from 1969-1976, and the biggest names in golf won the event including Jack Nicklaus, Babe Hisky, Lee Trevino, Lanny Wadkins, John Mahaffey, Al Geiberger, Dave Hill and George Archer. But the biggest and most important champion is Tiger Woods, who won his first PGA Tour event, the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational, when Las Vegas National Golf Club was one of the host courses of the three-course, five-round event. Woods shot a one-under par 70 for his round at Las Vegas National.
Las Vegas National Golf Club is professional managed by the American Golf Corporation, and is located just minutes off the famous Las Vegas Strip, making it one of the most centrally located golf courses in Las Vegas. Other American Golf Corporation courses in Las Vegas are Painted Desert, Desert Rose and Las Vegas Golf Club.
