More Than 85 Events To Take Place In Metro Atlanta
MARIETTA, Ga. (March 12, 2007) – Boys and girls, ages 7-18, around metro Atlanta and north Georgia will have many choices to play golf this summer as the Atlanta Junior Golf Association unveils its summer tournament series schedule. Beginning May 31, the organization will provide more than 85 events and more than 9,000 rounds of golf in more than 25 Georgia counties.
Atlanta Junior Golf – Atlanta’s home for junior golf since 1974 – has evolved into one of the premier junior golf associations in the country. Youth – from Athens to Carrollton and from Dalton to Griffin -participating in the program will be afforded opportunities to play tournament golf, not have to travel far for events during the summer and enjoy the game on some of the state’s best courses.
Since 1999, Atlanta Junior Golf has incrementally increased its annual summer tournament schedule from 60 to more than 90 events this year. Beginners to advanced players will have an abundance of golf courses to choose from, including long-standing venues on the summer schedule like Druid Hills Golf Club, First Tee sites, Georgia state park golf courses, as well as new courses on the schedule like Chattahoochee Golf Course and White Columns Country Club. (Schedule follows below.)
"We are so fortunate to be supported every year by golf professionals and golf clubs in the Atlanta area," said Roh Wezner, Atlanta Junior Golf Association executive director. "Without them, we would not be able to run our program and keep fees affordable for everyone. We are thankful for their involvement."
Coupled with the addition of events, Atlanta Junior Golf has experienced many changes this year.
Among the changes, the organization will introduce a new membership program to encourage juniors to play more golf. Historically, the association presented a one-time fee, which covered annual memberships and tournament costs with a limit allowing players entrance into only six tournaments. Now, participants can enroll as members and play in as few or as many tournaments as each individual can attend.
Additionally, Atlanta Junior Golf has restructured the skill levels in 2007. Along with beginner division events, typically set on a variety of executive and par-3 golf courses and open to participants just starting off in the game, the association will present five more divisions. For the second year, there will be nine-hole club and nine-hole open divisions, 18-hole club and 18-hole open divisions and an 18-hole boys 12-and-under division.
Atlanta Junior Golf has created an efficient platform for youth and families to register for events and programs and gather information pertaining to junior golf through the organization’s recently re-launched web site, www.atlantajuniorgolf.org. The site, powered by Wayne, Pa.-based Blue Golf, L.L.C., provides users much information about its signature summer tournament series, fall season events and rules of golf seminars.
The following is a list of events per county in the more than 25 counties Atlanta Junior Golf will serve this summer: Bartow (3); Carroll (3); Cherokee (6); Clarke (1); Clayton (2); Cobb (9); Coweta (6); DeKalb (4); Douglas (2); Fayette (4); Floyd (1); Franklin (1); Fulton (19); Gwinnett (12); Hall (2); Harris (1); Henry (3); Jackson (1); Lumpkin (1); Morgan (3); Newton (2); Pickens (1); Rockdale (1); Spalding (2); Upson (1); Walton (1); White (1) and Whitfield (1).

Contributions to the association are thus tax deductible by individuals and corporations alike.
