WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Reaffirming its commitment to growing the game of golf, Colonial Williamsburg’s Golden Horseshoe Golf Club and Spotswood Course are offering junior golf programs for children of all ages, starting in late June through early August.
Available to guests of the resort, children of members or to local residents (as specified) the experiences include:
Junior Golf Day Camp will be offered in two sessions: July 16-19 and July 30-Aug. 2, for two age groups: six to 10, and 11 to 16. Instruction in putting and short game, swing fundamentals and on-course management will be covered. At the end of the camp, participants play Golden Horseshoe’s Green Course or Spotswood, accompanied by the resort’s PGA professionals. Cost for the camp is $195 for the session for the children or grandchildren of members; $245 for children of hotel guests and $295 for day campers.
A Junior Golf Program will be offered each Monday afternoon for seven weeks, starting in late June through early August, with instruction for children in two age groups: six to 10 and 11 to 16. The cost is $90 per junior golfer for the seven-week session.
Families on Fairways (offered Monday through Thursday anytime, and Friday through Sunday after 11 a.m.) allows kids 17 and under, staying at an official Colonial Williamsburg resort property, to play free with a paying adult on the Green Course. Children may also play on the Spotswood Course any day, any time. Families are welcome to play together at any time and there are no tee time restrictions on any of the golf courses.
One-hour clinics are conducted each Tuesday and Saturday afternoon for children and adults staying in the resort’s hotels.
Jones Cup is an annual father/son competition named for the famed golf course designer Robert Trent Jones Sr. and his equally renowned son, Rees. To be eligible for to play in this event, teams must be father and son, stepfather and stepson, father-in-law and son-in-law or grandfather and grandson.
"Take Your Daughter to the Golf Course Week" is a national golf industry initiative. From July 9-15, special rates and tee times will be offered to girls and women playing at the Golden Horseshoe.

The Golden Horseshoe Golf Club ( www.goldenhorseshoegolf.com ) offers a pair of 18-hole gems: the Gold Course, originally designed by the famed Robert Trent Jones Sr. and renovated by his son Rees Jones (6,817 yards from the championship tees), and the Green Course, a Rees Jones layout (7,120-yards from the tips). The popular, executive-length Spotswood Course, named for colonial Governor Alexander Spotswood, offers a challenge to golfers of all skill levels. Spotswood provides a couple of hours of afternoon delight with nine beautiful and challenging holes for junior golfers, beginners and experienced golfers alike. Called the "best short nine-hole course in the country" by GOLF Magazine, the par-31 Spotswood Course was designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., and measures 1,765 yards with one 480-yard par 5, par 4s of 285 and 305 yards, and six par-3 holes that vary from 90 to 215 yards.
