Robert Trent Jones II links-style design on track for summer debut
UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash., March 19, 2007 – KemperSports today announced Joe Wisocki IV as general manager and director of golf of Chambers Bay, the soon-to-open, links-style golf course, located just outside of Tacoma. Wisocki will supervise pre-opening operations over the coming months and oversee facility operations upon the course’s debut, scheduled for June.
"Joe possesses the credentials and leadership skills to take on this assignment, " said KemperSports President and COO Steve Skinner. "He has proven successful in the opening and ongoing operations of nationally recognized facilities. Along with Pierce County, Wash., and Robert Trent Jones II, we look forward to providing a memorable golf experience at Chambers Bay."
Wisocki, whose career spans more than 18 years in the golf industry, recently transitioned to Chambers Bay from The Wilderness at Fortune Bay, a KemperSports-managed resort casino and championship golf course in Tower, Minn. He was part of the team which opened the nationally acclaimed destination in 2004, and during his tenure, The Wilderness was named "Best New Upscale Public Course" by Golf Digest and tabbed the No. 1 course in Minnesota by Golfweek, among numerous other national and local honors.
In 2003, KemperSports named Wisocki as "General Manager of the Year" and "Retailer of the Year." Two years later, he achieved designation as a Certified Professional in General Management from the PGA, followed by "Merchandiser of the Year" honors from the Minnesota Section of the PGA in 2006.
Wisocki has been a member of The PGA of America since 1992. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from Benedictine College in Kansas.
Situated just outside of Tacoma and less than an hour south of Seattle, Chambers Bay is destined to be one of the most unique recreational opportunities on the West Coast, offering panoramic views of Puget Sound, neighboring islands and the Olympic Mountains. Designed by world-renowned architect Robert Trent Jones II, the 18-hole layout is highlighted by dramatic elevation changes, cliffs, windswept dunes and native grasses. Pierce County officials are confident the scenic venue will grow to attract golfers and tourists from across the nation as well as local and national tournaments.
