Women’s Organization Recognizes EWGA’s CEO as Leader Who ‘Sticks Neck Out’
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, April 3, 2007 — Pam Swensen, the Chief Executive Officer of the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) has won a 2007 Giraffe Award from the Women’s Chamber of Commerce of Palm Beach County. Each year during Women’s History Month, the chamber recognizes three outstanding leaders who " ‘stick their necks out’, whose focus, initiative, dedication, perseverance and risk-taking make a difference to other women in the workplace and in the community". Swensen was honored at the 12th Annual Giraffe Awards Dinner held on March 29th in West Palm Beach, Florida.
When Swensen was named CEO of the EWGA in May, 2006, she quickly set a goal to achieve "50 in 5" – meaning 50,000 members in the next five years for this nationwide women’s golf association. Since that time she has pursued every opportunity to champion women’s golf and its many benefits in helping women succeed in business and enhancing their personal well being. Founded in 1991, the EWGA is dedicated to providing opportunities for women to learn, play, and enjoy the game of golf for business and for life.
"This recognition is for the many accomplishments of the EWGA and all of the women who have ‘stuck their necks out’ for women’s golf," says Swensen. "Our education and mentoring programs, involvement in American Express Women’s Golf Week, charitable work for LPGA-USGA Girls Golf and so many other causes, and how we touch the lives of thousands and thousands of women throughout the country – that is the real reason for this award. I am honored to accept this on behalf of all of the women involved in the growth of women’s golf. "
Fittingly, the keynote speaker at the awards dinner was Judy Dickinson, former LPGA Tour player and director of community relations for the ADT Championship. Also recognized as one of the nine nominees was Annette Thompson, a member of the LPGA Teaching and Club Professionals, lauded for her many career achievements in teaching golf teachers how to teach.
"What a great night for women’s golf," says Swensen. "The chamber’s motto is ‘women mean business’ and that certainly holds true for the golf industry as well."
Swensen joined the EWGA as vice president of sales & marketing in 2002. Previously she was vice president of The Jane Blalock Company in Boston, MA and has more than 18 years of golf industry experience in the areas of advertising, corporate communications, sales promotion, business development and event management.
The EWGA is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, with 120 chapters throughout the United States and Canada. Chapters provide a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers. A PGA of America survey shows that each EWGA chapter annually generates over $512,000 in golf related spending within its community. For more information on the association see www.ewga.com. ###
