13th Annual Monday After the Masters Event To Be Held April 9h at the Dye Club at Barefoot Resort & Golf in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
April 3, 2007, Myrtle Beach, S.C. – The list of celebrities and PGA professionals scheduled to play in the 2007 Hootie & the Blowfish Monday after the Masters Celebrity Golf Tournament continues to grow as tournament officials announced more participants today.
From the gridiron, NFL Hall of Famer Marcus Allen and NFL analyst Paul McGuire will tee it up. Golf fitness instructor Katherine Roberts returns in 2007 for her second Monday after the Masters appearance, while actor Fred Griffith, of "Gods and Generals", makes his first visit to the band’s annual golf tournament in Myrtle Beach. Musicians Ed Roland from Collective Soul, Adrian Young from No Doubt and Dan Tyminski of Union Station are scheduled to participate in 2007.
Celebrities, musicians and athletes previously announced include R&B singer Javier; pop rock performer Edwin McCain; Alter Bridge drummer Scott Phillips and country singers Steve Azar, and Johnny Lee. Other celebrities participating in the 2007 Tournament include ESPN host Stuart Scott, Gary Valentine of "King of Queens" and "Andromeda", actor Anthony Anderson from "The Departed", Lucas Black of "Friday Night Lights" and "Jarhead" and TV personality Mitch Laurance.
From the sports world, USC head football coach Steve Spurrier, former NFL stars Dwight Clark, Jason Sehorn, Jim McMahon, Sterling Sharpe and George Rogers will participate. Former New York Met Kevin Elster and 1992 National League Rookie of the Year Eric Karros will represent Major League Baseball.
The professional golf field is once again loaded with talent including John Daly, Woody Austin, Ricky Barnes, Lee Elder, Robert Gamez, Billy Kratzert, Mark Lye, Troy Matteson, Jim McGovern and LPGA golfer Erica Blasberg. Many golfers with South Carolina connections such as Kyle Thompson and D.J. Trahan will join the band as well.
"We’ve been looking forward to this year’s tournament for awhile and with the addition of these celebrities, musicians and athletes, the 2007 Monday After the Masters Tournament will be the most exciting event we’ve had to date," said Darius Rucker of Hootie & The Blowfish. "Myrtle Beach is the ‘Golf Capital of the World’ and is the perfect site for our tournament. We hope to see a lot of friends and fans out at the Dye Club at Barefoot Resort on Monday."
Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday spokesperson Charlie Rymer will appear at the Monday After the Masters and conduct on the course interviews with the athletes and celebrities. The interviews will be featured on HootieGolf.com and GolfHoliday.com next week.
Monday After the Masters participants will have the opportunity to bid on an Orange County Chopper, designed in red, white and blue as a tribute to the United States. Donated by the Silverton Hotel & Casino, the chopper will be auctioned off at Sunday night’s party at the House of Blues in North Myrtle Beach.
Tickets for the charity golf tournament are $10, with children 12 years of age and younger admitted free, and can be purchased at the House of Blues, the Barefoot Resort & Golf pro shops and all Ticketmaster outlets. Each child under 12 years of age will need a complimentary ticket that can be picked up on the day of the event at the general parking area in Barefoot Landing, near the Alabama Theater.
Over the past 12 years, the tournament has donated more than $3 million to the South Carolina Junior Golf Foundation and The Hootie & The Blowfish Foundation, which supports the educational and junior golf needs of South Carolina. A record $450,000 was raised at the 12th annual Monday After the Masters and those donations were distributed to the Hootie & The Blowfish Foundation, the South Carolina Junior Golf Association, the First Tee Program of Spartanburg, the South Carolina Juvenile Diabetes Foundation and a holding fund for the future Charleston junior golf facility.
