(Duluth, Georgia, April 24, 2007) — Stewart Cink, a four-time PGA TOUR winner and a former collegiate All-American at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, will play in the 2007 AT&T Classic, May 14-20 at TPC Sugarloaf where he makes his home. He will be making his 12th straight appearance in the event. Now in its 39th year, the 72-hole PGA TOUR event offers a total purse of $5.4 million and a first place check of $972,000. Here are some quick facts on Cink:
â?¢ Cink is off to a somewhat slow start by his standards in the early going this year with a 9th place tie at the World Golf Championships-Accenture Match Play Championship as his best performance in five events. After debuting with a rare missed cut at the Sony Open in Hawaii, he tied for 14th at the Buick Invitational two weeks later. He also tied for 17th at The Masters.
â?¢ As usual, Cink enjoyed a remarkably consistent year in 2006, cashing checks 22 in 26 starts with seven top 10s and 16 in the top 25. Best finishes included tie for second at the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational, a fourth place tie at the Bank of America Colonial and solo fifths at the INTERNATIONAL and the Buick Championship. He also tied for 10th at The Masters.
â?¢ Cink has enjoyed considerable success at the AT&T Classic over the years, with six top 10s in 11 career starts. His best was a solo second in 1999, but he also has a tie for fifth in 1998, sixth place ties in 2001 and 2003, a tie for eighth in 2005 and a 24th place tie last year. All of this adds up to $817,380, sixth highest total in tournament history.
â?¢ Cink always enjoys the shortest commute of anyone in the field. He and wife Lisa and sons Connor and Reagan recently moved into their second home at TPC Sugarloaf. He is also a member of Atlanta’s East Lake Golf Club, the permanent home of the TOUR Championship.
â?¢ Cink enjoyed a career best year in 2004 with wins at both the MCI Heritage and the WGS-NEC Invitational, the third and fourth victories of his career. He banked $4,450,270 to finish fifth on the final money list. In 28 events he recorded 10 top ten finishes and 20 in the top 25.
â?¢ He earned PGA TOUR Rookie of the Year honors in 1997 becoming the first golfer to capture that honor the year after being named Nike TOUR Player of the Year.
â?¢ He was a three time All-America at Georgia Tech. In 1995 he captured the Dave Williams, the Haskins and the Jack Nicklaus awards as College Player of the Year.
â?¢ He has been a member of three Ryder Cup teams (2002, 2004 and 2006), two Presidents Cup teams (2000 and 2005) and two World Cup teams (2005 and 2006).
