Quintero Golf and C.C. event supports The Environmental Institute for Golf
Quintero Golf and Country Club, located in Peoria, Ariz., hosted its second annual Quintero Golf Event this spring to benefit The Environmental Institute for Golf, the philanthropic organization of the Golf Course Superintendents of America (GCSAA).
A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Cactus & Pine Golf Course Superintendents Association’s Environmental and Golf Foundation (the Cactus & Pine GCSA is one of 104 GCSAA affiliated chapters). In addition to the tournament, a silent auction was conducted, resulting in a total contribution to The Institute of more than $35,000.
Co-hosts for the event were Quintero owner-developer Gary McClung and Chairman/CEO of Troon Golf, Dana Garmany. Both are members of The Institute’s Advisory Council.
"We were able to build on the success of last year’s inaugural event with another successful tournament and silent auction," McClung said. "I couldn’t be more proud of Rodney Meyers, our GCSAA Class A golf course superintendent, for not only providing such great conditions, but for making our golf course a great example of the environmental stewardship for the golf industry. By making this contribution to The Institute and the Cactus & Pine Foundation, we’re really contributing to the golf and environmental communities both nationally and locally."
McClung is in the second year of his three-year term on The Institute’s Advisory Council. Garmany, who recently completed his first term, has agreed to serve on the Advisory Council for another three-years.
"At Troon Golf we have made a commitment to further the compatibility of golf with the environment," Garmany said. "This event raised a significant amount of money toward connecting golf and the environment, and we look forward to building upon it in the future."
The Advisory Council provides guidance to The Institute’s board of trustees in the areas of outreach, fundraising and strategic planning. The members were selected to enhance The Institute’s ability to cultivate relationships with current and potential donors, as well as communicate the importance of the work conducted by The Institute. The Advisory Council is headed by World Golf Hall of Fame member Greg Norman.
"Both Dana and Gary have been integral to the success of the Advisory Council," said Norman, who has designed a second golf course for Quintero Golf and Country Club. "The Institute is very appreciative of their efforts, as well as their generous donation. We are also tremendously pleased that Dana has committed to another three-year term on the Advisory Council as we continue to push forward with The Institute’s objectives."
