St. Augustine, Fla. (August 29, 2007) – The World Golf Hall of Fame will for the first time complement an in-house exhibition with an online presentation to give fans of the game a taste of what is on display at the museum. Various elements of the exhibit, "Pride, Passion, Patriotism: A Celebration of The Solheim Cup," which recently opened in the Hall of Fame museum, can now be found on the Hall of Fame’s Web site, www.wgv.com.
Located in the Hall of Fame’s museum section of the Web site, at http://wgv.com/hof/solheimcup.php, The Solheim Cup online exhibit provides an opportunity for golf fans around the world to look inside the stories of women’s professional golf’s most prestigious team competition. Visitors can read first-hand the stories and memories as told by the players and captains themselves, browse through a decade of Solheim Cup history and view photographs from each of the nine biennial events.
"The experience of developing The Solheim Cup exhibit – both in the museum and on the Web site – has been very interesting as the event is relatively young and therefore many of the past captains and participants are still very active," said Jack Peter, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the Hall of Fame. "This afforded us the rare opportunity to get retrospective accounts from many of the key individuals throughout the tournament’s first decade, making this exhibit an extremely personal one for the guests."
The online exhibit features stories told by Solheim Cup captains and participants, including Pat Bradley, Donna Caponi, JoAnne Carner, Beth Daniel, Laura Davies, Nancy Lopez, Dottie Pepper, Judy Rankin, Dale Reid, Annika Sorenstam and Mickey Walker.
The Solheim Exhibit was developed with the help of PING, the LPGA and the Ladies European Tour, as well as many photographers. On display from the Solheim family in the museum is one of three original Solheim Cup trophies. LIZGOLF and Abacus, the official apparel providers for the 2007 U.S. and European teams, respectively, have provided outfits, and several past captains and participants lent memorabilia and artifacts for display.
