Plymouth, Indiana (September 19, 2007) – The United States Golf Academy at the Swan Lake Resort, in Plymouth Indiana, in conjunction with Mentor Sports Technologies, Inc. ("Mentor Sports") of Pleasanton, California, announced today they are looking for volunteer golfers of all ages and abilities to participate in a study on the influence of putter weighting on the putting stroke.
The testing will be done at the United States Golf Academy utilizing the facilities state of the art diagnostic equipment and innovative putters developed by Mentor Sports."There is a great deal of speculation out there on the influence a putter has on a golfer and whether or not different types of putter designs work better with certain putting styles.
Our Golf Academy has one mission and that is to help our students score better and by learning the actual effect of different putters we can focus on what will really help us meet our goal of lower scores for our students," states Pat Bayley Director of Golf Operations. "We have the expertise and ability to measure strokes to 1/10th of a degree in face rotation, one millimeter in distance and 1/1000th of a second in time."
"When I originally designed our newest putter model, my intent was to simply offer a level customizability that would enable this putter to meet the wide range of putter specifications advocated by noted putting instructors with competing philosophies," states Chin Bae, President of Mentor Sports. "This will be first opportunity that these theories about putter design and putting technique can be put to the test using golf equipment that can really isolate the key design characteristic without changing any other variable. What’s equally important is that we’re now able to use testing equipment that’s sensitive enough to measure the subtle differences that these varying design specifications can theoretically make to your putting stroke."
The volunteers participating in the study will be asked to hit putters of different weight configurations at 3 different distances. There is no charge to participate, and the individual results of the test will be made available to each participant. Those interested in participating in the study should contact Bruce Rearick, Director of Instruction, United States Golf Academy at 574-935-6571.
