LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Professional Clubmakers’ Society (PCS) recently completed the first class in a series of newly created Professional Development Courses. The basic PCS Assembly/Repair/Fitting 201-203 course was held at PCS Headquarters September 17 through 19, 2007.
This three-day course was designed to introduce interested students to the work of the golf equipment industry. By the end of the class, students were ready to take the next step towards becoming a Professional Clubmaker/Fitter. However, the review of the ‘fundamentals’ of clubmaking was beneficial for the experienced golf equipment enthusiast as well.
"It has been terrific; love the hands-on interaction – plus info combo. I have been in golf for 30 years – around clubs – and this has been fantastic," says Luanne Cherney, LPGA professional from Orlando, Fla.
"I am very glad I attended this course. I learned a lot more than I hoped," says John Wade, an class attendee from Ontario, Canada. "I thought I knew quite a bit about golf clubs, but this course gave me even more knowledge. I definitely recommend it."
"More courses are scheduled throughout the remainder of 2007 with even more coming in 2008, each session becoming increasingly more detailed and challenging for all levels of experience in this field," says Christon Clark, PCS manager of finance and professional development. "In addition to basic courses, the PCS will hold classes for intermediate golf equipment professionals, as well as the more advanced. One particular high-level course will cover Advanced Wedge Fitting, and requires PCS Professional Class A certification for participation."
PCS – the Golf Equipment Professionals provides invaluable information on the latest in golf equipment, supplies and accessories to its members through various print and online publications. In addition, the PCS hosts the 2008 Golf Equipment Professional Technology Conference, which features seminars approved by the PGA and LPGA, hands-on equipment testing, and workshops for golf equipment professionals. Perhaps the most valuable service offered by the PCS is its Certification Program which signifies a golf equipment professional has met the highest standard of academic proficiency, applied technology, and excellence in craftsmanship in the areas of club making, club fitting, and club repair.
