Sept 25, 2007; Phoenix Arizona: PING announced the release of its new Tour-Wâ?¢ Wedges featuring shot-making technology for players at every level. The new wedges will be available globally to golfers starting October 1, 2007, according to John A. Solheim, company Chairman and CEO.
The wedges feature a tungsten weight in the toe of the club which increases the moment of inertia and improves forgiveness. The use of this high-density material also allows the club to be slightly smaller for increased playability out of various conditions.
"The goal behind any wedge we make is to provide the golfer with a club that performs consistently well from the various positions within the scoring zone," said Solheim. "The precisely machined face and grooves provide exceptional performance. Players are going to be impressed at the variety of shots these wedges add to their game and take away from their score."
PING pro Lee Westwood used two of new Tour-W Wedges in his recent victory at the Quinn Direct British Masters. Hunter Mahan and Ted Purdy have also put the Tour-W Wedges into play.
By using a vertical Custom Tuning Portâ?¢ (CTP), PING engineers were able to move the center of gravity down and forward to allow the correct head rotation during a shot.
Designed with a traditional tear drop shape, the Tour-W Wedges allow golfers to be more creative on pitch and chip shots around the green.
The wedges feature a patented hosel notch that controls the bend point for precise loft and lie adjustments. They are available in 47°, 50°, 52°, 54°, 56°, 58° and 60° lofts with multiple bounce options at 54°, 56°, 58° and 60°. These various lofts and bounce options help golfers to improve their game by offering a more precise fit for an assortment of swing styles and turf conditions.
The Tour-W Wedges will be available in a brushed silver chrome finish in all loft/bounce options and black nickel chrome finish in limited loft/bounce options.
U.S. MSRP is $125 w/steel shaft; $152.50 w/graphite shaft.
