Purple Ice, Pershing and YS Models Drove Players to Success
(SAN DIEGO, California) – Graphite Design — maker of some of the most widely played graphite driver, fairway wood and hybrid shaft models on the PGA TOUR — propelled three top-six finishers at the PGA TOUR’s Fry’s Electronics Open and the winner of the Japan Tour’s Bridgestone Open, according to the Darrell Survey.
Excelling in difficult conditions at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz., the trio playing Graphite Design shafts claimed third, fourth and sixth place at the Fry’s Electronics Open. Graphite Design’s popular Purple Ice, Pershing, YS-6 and YS-Hybrid shafts helped the players shoot a combined 27-under par and earn more than $711,000 for the week. The third-place finisher hit 80.4 percent of fairways over four days with Purple Ice in his driver, second-best in the field.
At the Japan Tour’s Bridgestone Open, Graphite Design captured the graphite wood shaft brand count for the 153rd consecutive tournament, a streak dating to 2002. In all, 118 Graphite Design shafts were played at the event, 33.2 percent of the total in drivers, hybrids and fairway woods and 49 more than the nearest competitor. The winner used Graphite Design shafts in a pair of fairway woods and a hybrid club, becoming the 13th Japan Tour champion in 19 events this season to play the company’s shafts.
"Superior shaft technology produces superior results, as professionals playing Graphite Design prove every week," said Tim Gillis, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Graphite Design. "Tough course and weather conditions put an even great premium on consistency, and it’s no accident that players using Graphite Design shafts excel when things get difficult. Amateurs also find that Graphite Design shafts produce dramatic improvement in accuracy and distance in any setting."
In 2006, Graphite Design shafts were played by 41 winners of professional tournaments worldwide. Players using Graphite Design shafts amassed more than $90 million in PGA TOUR earnings in 2006 while the company earned more graphite wood-shaft model count victories on the PGA TOUR (16) than any other manufacturer. On the Japan Tour, Graphite Design shafts were in the bags of 18 winners in 2006 while the company extended its win streak in the wood shaft brand count to 134 consecutive tournaments.
Graphite Design is the graphite shaftmaker of choice for Hank Haney, coach to the world’s top-ranked player. This year the company introduced the Tour AD Quattro Tech ultra-premium shaft in the U.S. and launched its G-TECH combination-flex custom clubmaker series of wood and iron shafts, designed for exceptional playability throughout the bag.
