(Vista, CA – February 4, 2008) Highly respected PGA and Nationwide Tour veteran Mike Sposa has joined Fujikura as Tour representative, bringing his personal knowledge of and relationships with Tour pros, tournament’s courses and tour representatives of leading club makers to help support the brand’s Tour Department service and leadership position.
Sposa joins the talented Fujikura team of Pat McCoy and John Hovis who have been responsible for the exceptional service and knowledge that has driven Fujikura’s seven-year PGA Tour dominance as the #1 Driver and All Woods Shaft Brand on the PGA. Along with success on the PGA Tour, Fujikura has enjoyed similar results on the LPGA and Champions Tours the past couple of years.
“Mike is a stellar addition to our excellent Tour team. He will be a valuable asset to Fujikura because of his playing experience and his knowledge about the players’ games and the challenging courses and varying conditions they face each week,” says Peter R. Sanchez, President/COO of Fujikura.
“We are fortunate to add a player with Mike’s skills and relationships to our team. He played on Tour for 15 years and has built a special rapport with Tour pros that will reinforce his and Fujikura’s credibility when precisely and personally fitting players. He also has strong relationships with the Tour representative of the leading club makers that we service on Tour,” says Pat McCoy, Fujikura’s PGA Tour Manager.
“I am excited to join Fujikura because they are the number one shaft on Tour. I played Fujikura shafts for much of my career and was always impressed with the product’s quality, fit and performance,” says Sposa. “I know that I will be a tremendous asset to Fujikura in expanding their Tour leadership because of my confidence in our product and my strong relationships with many golf professionals and other Tour representatives
Sposa played for 15 years on the PGA and Nationwide Tour, winning over $2 million with 20 top ten and 65 top 25 finishes. He is a graduate of the University of Tennessee where he was twice named All-American and won the SEC Championship. He begins working on Tour for Fujikura at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am the week of February 4.
Sposa and the Tour team will collaborate with Fujikura’s new Fit-On Academy, an innovative, proprietary research and development system designed to create and test new breakthrough shaft designs and materials. Based at the company’s Vista CA offices, the Fit-On Academy uses the most advanced analysis and simulation technology to track golfer’s real swings and range of swing speeds to produce exclusive insights used to test and design performance shafts customized for the Tour and all levels of players of ages, skills and handicaps.
Fujikura’s premier tour position was highlighted by being the #1 Driver Shaft Brand at all four men’s majors in 2007. On the LPGA and Champions Tours, Fujikura was the #1 Driver and Wood Shaft brand at their respective U.S. major championships.
The brand also showed dramatic, consistent growth over the last three years across all handicaps and ages in shafts used in new drivers and fairway woods/hybrids, according to the most recent Darrell Survey National Consumer Report. The report shows that Fujikura grew 189% in New Driver Usages and 200% in New Fairway/Hybrids, exceeding leading competition from 2005 to 2007.
