(SHENZHEN, China) – Mission Hills Golf Club – the world’s largest collection of premier golf courses with 12 layouts designed by many of the greatest golfers and golf-course architects from five continents – announces it is the exclusive sponsor of the 2008 Chinese Lunar New Year Fireworks Extravaganza that will illuminate the Hong Kong sky the evening of February 8 beginning at 8 p.m.
The festivities will commemorate the Chinese Year of the Rat as well as Hong Kong’s selection to host the equestrian events for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the first Olympic Games ever held in China. Mission Hills’ founder, Dr. David Chu, played a significant role in China’s selection as host country and will preside over the evening’s activities from the Hong Kong Convention Center.
“While Mission Hills is world-renowned as a golf destination, we are proud of our involvement with the 2008 Beijing Olympics,” says Chu. “We realize that the Games mark a momentous event in the history of our country and think Mission Hills’ association is a natural given its status as China’s greatest golf club.”
Mission Hills has donated approximately $1 million to make the 10-scene, 23-minute display at Hong Kong’sVictoria Harbor possible. About 40,000 pyrotechnics will be launched from four barges, making the event approximately 25 percent larger than past shows. Synchronized music specially selected to convey themes such as Chinese strength, harmony and prosperity will accompany the fireworks, as well as the Olympic theme song, “We Are Ready.”
The 2008 Beijing Olympics will be held August 8 – 24.
