Southwest Oklahoma?s Premiere Golf and Residential Community Teams with Halliburton to Host Tournament, Give Back to Community
(Southwest Oklahoma) – The Territory Golf and Country Club – ranked No. 12 on Golfweek’s “Top 50 Best New Courses” list in 2007 – today announces that the Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma will be the charitable beneficiaries when the club hosts the 2008 Halliburton Southwest Oklahoma Championship. The Adams Pro Golf Tour Series event, scheduled for May 22 through 25, will be played on the 18-hole Randy Heckenkemper-designed course.
Owners Rick and Barbara Braught envisioned The Territory, a golf and residential community with a focus on family, as a catalyst for economic development when they undertook the venture. Three years later, much of that vision has been realized – with the significant contribution to the Cancer Centers of Southwest Oklahoma as the latest piece of the puzzle.
“We are committed to Southwest Oklahoma and this is just one more way to give back to the community,” says Rick Braught. “We set out to build something of enduring quality, something to shine for generations to come and simultaneously blend seamlessly into this unspoiled area. Not only is The Territory an economic development stimulus which people in the region can be proud of, but it’s also an avenue to improve the way of life for those who depend on medical facilities in our own back yard.”
Duncan-area hotels, restaurants and shops can expect to see an influx of traffic throughout the week of the tournament. During the Halliburton Southwest Oklahoma Championship, The Territory will host more than 156 national and international touring golf professionals with a total prize purse of $100,000.
“The Territory is very pleased to get the opportunity to host a stop on the 2008 Adams Pro Golf Tour Series,” says The Territory’s Director of Golf/General Manager Tim Johnson. “The Halliburton Southwest Oklahoma Championship will be a good challenge for the players on the tour this year. It will also be a great opportunity for us to show off the casual elegance that is The Territory, to people from outside the area.”
With 17 scheduled events, the Adams Pro Golf Tour Series is open to any professional or amateur golfer with a handicap of 5 or less who is at least 18 years old. The Adams Pro Golf Tour Series is one of the nation’s top developmental tours, providing opportunities for successful players to move on to the Nationwide Tour and ultimately PGA Tour.
The public can purchase spectator passes for the Halliburton Southwest Oklahoma Championship for $5 per day or $20 for the week. The tentative tournament schedule follows:

About The Territory
The Territory – a golf and country club community located in Southwest Oklahoma – has hosted the Oklahoma State Amateur, Oklahoma State Senior Amateur and an NCAA Division II Super Regional.
Prospector’s Ridge, Phase I of the residential development, is in the early stages of development. Prices of lots available range from $61,000 to $144,000. If a similar, high-quality property like The Territory were located in the nearby Dallas-Fort Worth area it would likely cost three times as much.
With five sets of tees – ranging from 4,845 to 7,110 yards – the modified target-golf course offers playability and enjoyment to players of all ages and skill levels. The greens are an A1-A4 creeping bentgrass blend, the tees, fairways and roughs are Tifsport Bermudagrass and native vegetation frames the playing corridors.
Located on the historic Chisholm Trail, The Territory is within a short drive of lakes for boating and fishing and mere minutes from a pair of schools, shopping, dining and churches. In addition, Duncan Regional Hospital was named to the Solucient Top 100 Hospitals list – a study of more than 3,000 hospitals that identifies industry benchmarks by recognizing U.S. hospitals that have achieved excellence in quality of care, operational efficiency, financial performance and adaptation to the environment.
Owners Rick and Barbara Braught – members of the McCasland Oil family – are graduates of the University of Oklahoma and remain active through university fund raising, support and holding season tickets to Sooner athletic events. Barbara (BA 1986, MBA 1990) is the granddaughter of T.H. McCasland – the founder of Mack Oil Company – and serves as Executive Director of the McCasland Foundation, while Rick (BBA 1984, MBA 1989) oversees numerous companies.
