Xenia, OH. (March 24, 2008) -The Ohio Golf Course Owner’s Association (OGCOA) recently announced their plan to get new golf course legislation enacted in the state. The goal is to change the way golf courses and clubs are valued for property tax purposes in Ohio.
To this end, Golf Tax, LLC (GT) is working cooperatively with the OGCOA. GT is representing numerous courses and private clubs at the local level in attempts to both gain immediate tax relief for owners, as well as, to help build a case to the legislature that a change is needed.
Jeff Monroe, President of Tax Profile Services, Inc. says, “The more action taken by the taxpayer, at the local level, the bigger message we send to the legislators. We have to convince them that we are concerned about how golf properties are being valued and that we are willing to exhaust the administrative remedies that they afford us (complaints/appeals against valuation)”.
The principles of Golf Tax are urging every concerned owner to take the “first” step and file a “complaint against value”, with their county, on tax year 2007. Golf Tax has uncovered indisputable “Errors in Fact”, made by every county assessor, that has overstated their course/clubs value by as much a 35%.
Monroe went on to say. “Golf Tax is offering support for their complaint, with legal counsel, if owners decide to enlist them and take their case to the Board of Revision (BOR). It costs nothing to file a complaint and they can rescind their complaint if they decide to withdraw. If they wish to move forward and have Golf Tax file their complaint, we are prepared to represent them at the BOR. We are offering course and club owners a very cost effective way to get this done correctly”.
If a course opts to file a complaint on their own, and need questions answered or support moving forward with the complaint, Golf Tax is offering to assist owners with that as well.
To meet the deadline, complaints MUST BE FILED with each local taxing authority, on or before Monday March 31st.
A link to download and print an Ohio Complaint Against Valuation form is found at the end of this article.
If this 2007 complaint is successful it will carry through the entire tax cycle. This could represent many thousands of dollars to owners in reduced property taxes, for several years to come.
“Filing numerous complaints now will help us start building the case for change at the state level, start changing opinions and methodologies at the local level, and gain many owners some much needed relief in the short term”, says Monroe.
