LAKE MARY, FL — Cheryl Anderson, the 2006 National LPGA Teacher of the Year, has joined the staff at the Mike Bender Golf Academy at Timacuan Golf Club in Lake Mary, FL. Anderson will serve as a Head Instructor at the academy founded by Mike Bender, who is ranked among the top 10 golf instructors in the world by Golf Digest.
Anderson is a Class A member of both the LPGA and PGA of America. She has authored numerous instruction articles in Golf for Women Magazine, Met Golfer Magazine and Golf Digest Woman Magazine. Her first book Teach Yourself Visually Golf was published in 2007.
In 2007, Golf Digest named Anderson one of the Top 20 Teachers Under 40 Years Old in the United States. Anderson also is one of Golf for Women Magazine’s 50 Top Women Teachers in America, one of GOLF Magazine’s Top Teachers in the Northeastern United States and one of Golf Digest’s Best Teachers in New York. She was also named 2007 Metropolitan (NY) PGA Section Teacher of the Year while she was instructing at Wykagyl C.C. in New Rochelle, NY.
Besides her credentials as one of the game’s best teachers, Anderson is also one of the best woman club pro competitors ever. In 2004 she earned the Metropolitan PGA Section Women’s Player of the Year award for a record fifth consecutive season. She also was runner-up in the 2002 LPGA National Club Professional Championship and has competed in numerous LPGA Tour events over the past decade.
The Mike Bender Golf Academy is one of the finest golf learning facilities in the world and is the training base to many top touring professionals including 2007 Masters champion, Zach Johnson, two-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen and multiple LPGA Tour winner Seon Hwa Lee. The facilities include a one-of-a-kind pitching practice facility, the MEGSA training bays and a newly expanded teaching building with the latest video technology.
The Mike Bender Golf Academy is enjoying rapid-fire growth in the Orlando area. Along with the main facility at Timacuan at Lake Mary, there are schools at Stoneybrook West in Winter Garden and Stoneybrook East in Orlando (which has a grand opening this Saturday, 1 p.m., open to the public). Timacuan is a semi-private club with a private-club feel. Designed by Ron Garl and refurbished by Bobby Weed, Timacuan has been one of Central Florida’s most popular courses since opening in 1988.
