(SUN VALLEY, Idaho) – Sun Valley Resort – the iconic, four-season destination – today announces construction for BaldMountain’s Gondola will begin in September. Originating at the base of River Run and climbing to the Top Terminal Plazaat the Roundhouse, the gondola project will encompass the two terminals, new restrooms and new access to The Roundhouse Restaurant.
In addition to the new Gondola, Sun Valley also will introduce the first nine holes of the White Clouds Course with the second nine scheduled to come online in 2010. The White Clouds Course joins the Award-winning Trail Creek Course at Sun Valley Resort. Originally opened in 1937, the Trail Creek Course was redesigned in the late 1970s by Robert Trent Jones Jr. with lead project architect Donald Knott. Coming full circle, Knott designed the White Clouds Course.
Sun Valley also will unveil a state-of-the-art golf clubhouse – doubling as a Nordic center in the winter, 25-acre practice facility, 18-hole putting course patterned after the putting course at St. Andrew’s and a Symphony Pavilion, which will seat up to 4,000 people.
“With our myriad amenities, there’s never any down time here at Sun Valley,” says General Manager Wallace Huffman. “That said, 2008 promises to be a year unlike any other. We’re excited to provide even more four-season activity for our guests.”
The “American Original” also boasts an award-winning tennis center, gun club, horseback riding, bowling, year-round outdoor ice skating rink and much more.
Plans for the plaza and the remodel of the Roundhouse have not yet been finalized. Upon finalization, they will be submitted to the Forest Service for a 45-day review, which will push the start of construction into September.
