DeRosier moves through ranks at Virginia State Golf Association Foundation’s home for golf
MIDLOTHIAN, Va., May 12, 2008 – KemperSports today announced Scott DeRosier as general manager of Independence Golf Club, the Virginia State Golf Association Foundation’s statewide home for golf in the commonwealth. In his new assignment, DeRosier will oversee all primary operations of the club, located just east of Richmond in Midlothian, Va.
DeRosier joined KemperSports in 2001 as part of the pre-opening team at Independence Golf Club. Over the past seven years, he has been involved in a variety of club operations, including golf shop operations, course maintenance and food and beverage management.
DeRosier’s principal assignment at Independence has been program director of the Robins Junior Program. Under his direction since 2002, the program has blossomed into a leading junior golf learning initiative in Virginia and beyond, touching the lives of nearly 3,000 participants in the summer of 2007 alone. More than 11,000 children have been exposed to golf in the first six years of the Robins Junior Program’s camps and clinics.
“Scott has been a key member of the KemperSports team at Independence since the club’s debut in 2001,” said Steve Skinner, CEO of KemperSports. “He will continue to play a prominent role in advancing Independence as a golf club and learning center while fulfilling the VSGA’s mission of fostering amateur and junior golf in the state of Virginia.”
Prior to joining KemperSports, DeRosier was a teacher at Powhatan Middle School in Virginia. He is a graduate of VirginiaCommonwealth University.
DeRosier currently resides in Chesterfield, Va., with his wife, Tammy, and their daughter, Olivia.
Independence Golf Club, owned by the Virginia State Golf Association Foundation and managed by KemperSports, features architect Tom Fazio’s only daily-fee golf course in the state of Virginia along with a nine-hole Sawyer Short Course, expansive clubhouse and a variety of programs aimed at growing the game of golf. The VSGA member club has hosted numerous state championships and USGA qualifiers. The esteemed SunTrust State Open of Virginia, a 72-hole, stroke play tournament dating back to 1924, will make it second consecutive run at Independence July 17-20.
