NFL Hall of Fame football great Joe DeLamielleure approached Natural Golf for help to improve his golf swing at this year’s PGA show in Orlando. With help from Natural Golf Certified Instructors Steve Conrad, Len Martin, and Jim Lahey what he got in return was a whole new lease on his golf game. His performance was noticeable to all at the Jim Kelly Foundation Golf Tournament today, where he hit some of the longest drives of his life.
He attributed his inconsistent playing, even though he plays 30+ charity tournaments a year, to his size. “I’m a huge proponent of fitness, and in fact, with the help of PGA Golf Fitness Professionals launched a new resistance training product that builds better golf fitness called the Joe D Bands™ Golf Fitness Training System last year.” What I was finding though was that the size of my arms and my chest didn’t allow me the ability to rotate around without slicing the ball. I was in the best shape I’d ever been in, but my golf game was very unimpressive” said DeLamielleure, famed for his athletic prowess as a former offensive guard for the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns.
The primary factor causing inconsistency for most golfers is that they setup to the ball with their arms and clubshaft on different planes but return through impact with arms and clubshaft on the same plane. The alignment of arms with clubshaft during the swing is a natural response to the swinging force created by the clubhead. However, the sequence of body motions necessary to accommodate this alignment when starting in a different setup is complicated and usually miss-timed during the swing, causing errant golf shots and inconsistent scoring.
The science of the Natural Single Plane Swing is based on starting with arms and clubshaft on the same plane at setup. As a result, there are virtually no strenuous body compensations necessary to return through this natural alignment during the swing. The Natural Single Plane Swing simply has fewer moving parts leading to more consistent ball striking and lower scores. The setup position is virtually identical to the impact position. No twisting or turning is necessary to accommodate the natural alignment of the clubshaft with the arms because that is where the swing starts.
PGA Professional Ken Martin, Natural Golf’s Director of Instruction and Executive Director of the Moe Norman Golf Academy says, “Engineers build equipment testing machines using the science of a Single Plane Swing because it provides the ideal mechanical advantage of repeatability with limited stress on the system. Even though Joe D. is intensely fit and athletic, his body size inhibits arm independence when in a conventional setup position. Joe D. plays an enormously improved game utilizing our swing method because his arms can now work in timing with his body when he starts in the Single Plane Setup.”
DeLamielleure’s multi-city golf tournament schedule includes one national NFL Alumni/Shriners in Cincinnati and two NFL Hall of Fame events in Canton, Ohio among tens of independent NFL golf fundraising events. About Natural Golf
Natural Golf has gained international recognition as an advocate for an uncomplicated golf swing based on the theory of moving the club on a single-plane; a method* demonstrated formidably by Canadian Golf Legend Moe Norman. The Natural Golf single plane swing begins with a distinctive hold on the club that naturally aligns the club shaft “on plane” with the arms. This single plane relationship between the shaft and arms simplifies the dynamics of consistent ball striking leading to more enjoyment faster for all levels of golfers as they play the game. This straightforward swing method provides a foundation for demystifying what has become for many a confusing world of golf instruction.
Based in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, Natural Golf currently teaches the Natural Golf Swing through its Certified Instructors at more than 200 locations around the world. Natural Golf sells a growing line of training aids, instructional materials and manufactures a diverse quality line of golf equipment providing a custom fit option for both advocates of the Natural Single Plane Swing as well as conventional golfers.
