RICHMOND, VA., June 16, 2008 – The inaugural Greater Richmond Duramed FUTURES Classic announced today that Goochland Free Clinic and Family Services will be the recipient of proceeds of the golf tournament. The LPGA’s Duramed FUTURES Tour tournament will be held at Richmond Country Club August 11 – 17.
“We are thrilled to be selected to benefit from this exciting new event,” said Sally Graham, GFCFS Executive Director. “This will support our work to provide health care and family services to those in need.”
The 54-hole tournament will feature a purse of $100,000 and a tournament field of a 144 professionals from 30 nations. The top five money winners at the end of the season will automatically “graduate” to the LPGA Tour.
Goochland Free Clinic & Family Services provides quality medical and dental services to adult residents of the county who are uninsured and cannot afford care. Care is provided by dedicated doctors, nurses, dentists and other health professionals who volunteer their time to see patients. Family services include home repair, medical transportation, financial assistance, literacy and GED support, just to name a few. The objective is to strengthen families by helping families help themselves.
“We are thrilled to team up with such an important cause in the local community,” said Toni Cleveland, co-director of the tournament. “This partnership allows us to not only give something back to the community for their support but at the same time will give our tournament sponsors more reasons to be part of this premier Richmond golf event.”
The week is full of events kicking off with the professionals official practice round on Tuesday, August 12 followed by two pro-ams which will be held on two days, one at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13 and the other on Thursday, August 14 at 8 a.m. Pro-am teams and sponsorship still available for the entire week. The professional event will take place Friday through Sunday, August 15 -17 and is open to the general public. Tickets are $5.00 a day Friday – Sunday. Admission is free to children 14 and under who are accompanied by an adult.
The Duramed FUTURES Tour features 18 tournaments around the country with a combined purse total of $1.745 million. The winner of the Greater Richmond Duramed FUTURES Classic will receive $14,000.
Several of the Tour’s alumnae are stars on the LPGA Tour including two-time Player of the Year, Lorena Ochoa, last year’s U.S. Women’s Open Champion, Cristie Kerr, and Hall Of Fame Member Karrie Webb. Through 2007 Duramed FUTURES Tour alums have won a combined total of 300 LPGA titles including 30 major championships.
