Fort McDowell, Ariz. – We-Ko-Pa Golf Club Head Golf Professional Brett Trenter has been promoted to General Manager at the award-winning golf facility located just east of Scottsdale on the Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. Trenter replaces Jeff Lessig, who moved to the OB Sports-managed Indian Wells Golf Resort in Indian Wells, Calif. In addition, Derek Crawford has been promoted to director of golf operations after serving as director of sales and marketing at We-Ko-Pa since the club opened in December 2001. Finally, Matt Barr has been promoted from assistant golf professional to head golf professional.
Trenter served as the head golf professional at We-Ko-Pa since June 2004. Prior to We-Ko-Pa, Trenter was the head golf professional at The Pointe Golf Club at Lookout Mountain in Phoenix, Ariz. From 1996 through 2002, Trenter worked at Grayhawk Golf Club, in Scottsdale, Ariz., where he learned golf operation from the ground up. Starting as a member of the outside service staff, Trenter quickly advanced to assistant professional. From there, he learned the different facets of golf operations as golf shop manager, retail manager and tournament coordinator. Trenter earned Class-A certification from the Professional Golfer’s Association in 2000; and since then, remains active within the organization by, among other things, serving on the Arizona Open Committee. An Illinois native, Trenter and his wife of 13 years, Stephanie, currently reside in Scottsdale.
A Phoenix native, Derek Crawford has close to 30 years experience in the golf business. Prior to We-Ko-Pa, Crawford served as a sales representative for many quality golf brands including Fidra, PING, Tour Edge, and Royal Precision. He has also held positions as director of golf for StoneCreek Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz. and head golf professional for Gainey Ranch Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. throughout his tenure in the golf industry.
Barr has more than 12 years experience at public, private and resort golf facilities. He has served as the assistant golf professional at We-Ko-Pa since May 2005. Prior to We-Ko-Pa, Barr was an assistant golf professional at The Boulders Resort in Carefree, Ariz., head golf professional at Glade Springs Resort in Daniels, West Virginia and head golf professional at Carolina National Golf Club in Bolivia, North Carolina. A Class-A member of the PGA of America, Barr is a graduate of Monmouth College in Monmouth, Illinois.
We-Ko-Pa Golf Club is a daily fee golf facility that consists of the original 18 holes, the Cholla course, designed by Scott Miller and a second 18 holes, the Saguaro course, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw. In addition to the two 18-hole courses, there is a large practice facility, a full-service clubhouse and a smaller clubhouse serving the new Saguaro Course.
