Vijay Singh Wins Second Straight FedEx Cup Playoff with Pro V1x
Fairhaven, MA (September 1, 2008) – The unmatched golf ball performance story of Titleist continued on the PGA TOUR as Vijay Singh relied upon the Pro V1x to earn his second consecutive FedEx Cup Playoff victory, this time in record fashion at the Deutsche Bank Championship. Singh fired a final round 8-under 63 to finish at 22-under 262, breaking the tournament scoring record by two shots. It was the third victory in the past five weeks for Singh, and the the 34th of his PGA TOUR career, including his second Deutsche Bank Championship win in four years. He holds a commanding lead in the FedEx Cup standings.
Singh topped a leaderboard that included three Titleist players among the top three and ties. He finished five shots clear of overnight leader Mike Weir, who closed with an even par 71, while Camilo Villegas tied for third. Both Weir and Villegas relied upon the Pro V1 for their success.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Deutsche Bank Championship with 74 players, compared to 14 for the nearest competitor. Singh’s win marks the 22nd by Titleist players on the 2008 PGA TOUR, more than twice the nearest competitor and more than all other golf balls combined. Titleist players have accumulated 124 wins across the worldwide professional tours in 2008, compared to 25 for the nearest competitor. Titleist was also the top choice in the iron (25), wedge (99) and putter (43) categories at the Deutsche Bank Championship.

PGA EUROPEAN: It was a Pro V1x 1-2 finish at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles, where Frenchman Gregory Havret made a dramatic up and down par save from the bunker on the 72nd hole, for a one shot win over a surging Graeme Storm. Havret posted a final round 3-under 70 to finish with a 14-under 278 total. The win was Havret’s second on Scottish soil, having also won the Scottish Open in 2007. Storm fired a final round 68.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Johnnie Walker Championship with 107 players, compared to 19 for the nearest competitor. The win was the 19th for Titleist on the PGA European Tour, nearly four times the nearest competitor with 5.
CHAMPIONS: Pro V1 loyalist Jeff Sluman captured the Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach for his second career Champions Tour title. Sluman closed with a 5-under 67, the day’s low round en route to a five-stroke win. A six-time PGA TOUR winner who won the Bank of America Championship in June for his first Champions Tour title, Sluman had a 14-under 202 total. He became the eighth Champions Tour player to win twice this season.
Titleist was the most played golf ball at the Wal-Mart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach with 51 players, compared to 11 for the nearest competitor. The win is the 19th for Titleist golf ball players on the 2008 Champions Tour, more than six times the nearest competitor with 3. The champion also relied upon a Vokey Design sand (56) and lob (60) wedge for his success.
