Golfers and fans can choose which lucky winner will spend a day with Natalie in Las Vegas by voting for their favorite video at www.rsmmcgladrey.com/nataliecontest
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – (September 23, 2008) – RSM McGladrey, a leading provider of accounting, tax and business consulting services, today announced, along with LPGA star and Team McGladrey member Natalie Gulbis, the five finalists for the “Who’s Behind Your Success?” nationwide essay contest. Each of the respective finalists created a 60-second video about their essay, and golfers and fans nationwide now have an opportunity to vote for their favorite video at www.rsmmcgladrey.com/nataliecontest. The lucky grand prize winner and one guest will spend an entire day with Gulbis in her hometown of Las Vegas, including a morning workout and nine holes of golf, followed by a dinner with Natalie.
The “Who’s Behind Your Success?” contest, which was open to anyone over age 18, invited participants to submit essays of 200 words or less, highlighting the most influential and/or inspirational individual behind the success in their life. The contest was inspired in part by Gulbis’ own personal essay about her father, who she calls the most influential person behind her success, and which is featured on the contest home page.
“Inspired by Natalie’s personal story, this contest has generated thousands of entries from Natalie’s fans, revealing how selfless acts from others have helped each participant achieve their goals,” said Mark Audino, RSM McGladrey Chief Marketing Officer. “At RSM McGladrey, we adhere to a philosophy that through commitment, perseverance and teamwork, anything is possible. These stories reinforce our philosophy and commitment to enhancing the success of our clients.”
After receiving thousands of submissions, RSM McGladrey is pleased to announce the five finalists that have been chosen, along with a synopsis of each respective story. Their complete essay submission along with their 60-second video is featured on the contest website.

Born paralyzed on my right side, I am an unlikely golfer but all my life Mom encouraged me to reach for my goals. Doctors weren’t encouraging but my Mom always believed. She devoted countless hours to medical appointments and therapies so I could participate in the “normal” world. When I expressed my interest in golfing with my Dad, she researched instructors until she found one willing to take on a handicapped student…

After serving in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, I had several personal obstacles to overcome. I was diagnosed with Traumatic Brain Injury and Chronic Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. When I arrived at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, I reconnected with a friend who’d lost his leg to a mortar attack. Sean was alive because of me; I saved him, little knowing that he’d save me…

I am blessed with two sons and a daughter that not only provided strength in difficult times but taught me what is significant in this world. We endured difficult times due to layoffs and a difficult divorce that left me three children to raise. During bleak times, it was the simplicity of a child or their honest view of the world that refocused me…

When asked if any of us could remember a time when an adult in our lives or teacher spoke to us harshly or was unkind, most of us can recall such an occasion. We know that children will not remember all they were taught, but they will remember how they were treated! My eleventh grade biology teacher walked over to me in class one day and said, “You’ll never amount to anything, Charles.” I have always remembered that statement…

I owe all my success to my stepfather, Bill Blackwell. He has shown me the value of building a foundation, learning basic skills and then honing them as I improve. He taught me that teamwork was a critical component to success…
“I want to congratulate the top five finalists and thank everyone who participated in the contest,” Gulbis said. “I wish the best of luck to the finalists and look forward to meeting and playing golf with the grand prize winner!”
The grand prize winner will be announced on Oct. 21 during the National Championship rounds of The PGA McGladrey Team Championship, the first nationwide grassroots best-ball amateur golf championship managed by The PGA of America. RSM McGladrey, the official accounting, tax and business consulting firm of The PGA of America, is the title sponsor of the PGA McGladrey Team Championship.
