BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Golf’s leader in composite shaft innovation, Aerotech Golf announces that company president and chief shaft designer Chris Hilleary was a featured participate in a technical panel discussion held during the annual Golf Clubmakers Association (GCA) Conference in Austin, Texas.
The panel discussion brought together representatives of the industry’s top four graphite shaft manufacturers – Aldila, UST (United Sports Technologies), Graphite Design and Aerotech – and fielded questions from GCA members. Topics raised ranged from shaft alignment technologies, advanced material engineering, new high-performance designs and custom fitting.
“GCA clubmakers understand that providing proper fitting recommendations requires up-to-date information on the latest golf equipment, and I was happy to be a part of the conference again this year,” says Hilleary, whose innovative SteelFiber shaft design created an entirely new shaft category in the golf market. Our unique engineering and design goes beyond the typical graphite shaft and incorporates steel fibers to produce an entirely different level of performance and stability.”
Providing golfers with the power of graphite and the stability of steel, SteelFiber shafts feature a high-modulus graphite core and more than 59 miles of steel fiber covering the surface of each shaft. While the shaft’s graphite core provides vibration dampening, increased clubhead speed and maximum distance, the steel fibers produce a optimum weighting for a solid feel at impact and add stability and control for pinpoint accuracy. SteelFiber shafts are available to enhance the performance of Irons, hybrids, fairway woods and drivers.
At the conference, Hilleary also gave clubmakers a first-hand look at the all-new SteelFiber i125 iron shaft. The new SteelFiber i125 graphite shaft is designed for players who prefer the weight of a steel shaft, but who also want the vibration dampening benefits and pinpoint accuracy of the SteelFiber design. The SteelFiber i125 iron shaft is unique among other heavier composite shafts because the additional weight is not achieved by adding more graphite – which makes shaft walls too thick and creates a ‘boardy’ feel – but rather by adding more metal fiber which has five times the density (weight) of graphite. This minimizes the increase in wall thickness and maintains the shaft’s playability with an incredibly stable feel and no harsh vibrations.
The Golf Clubmakers Association was founded in 1980 by Golfsmith International. With more than 6,000 members, the GCA is the oldest and largest association devoted exclusively to help promote the craft of clubmaking. The four-day conference included technical presentations, hands-on demo days and detailed discussions with industry professionals on the latest product trends and clubmaking techniques
