Overcoming Setback, GAA Graduate Emerges With No Doubts

October 20, 2008

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The golf swing is a key fundamental to golf and it’s something Golf Academy of America (GAA) graduate Ryan Pinkerton is thankful to practice every day. In July of 2002, Pinkerton nearly lost his left arm and suffered a broken femur in a car accident. What he didn’t lose was his passion for the game, and today is a GAA graduate and certified golf professional.

Pinkerton, 23, became a professional and immediately sought work 18 months after attending GAA. Currently participating in the PGA certification program, Ryan is now working at Diamond Run in Sewickley, Penn., an 18-hole Gary Player Signature Course. This follows a high school career at Ford City, which included an extra year due to a medical exemption, and a stint at Long Bell golf Club in Mesa, Ari.

“Keeping up with graduates like Ryan is one of the best parts of this job,” says Don Keith, vice president of corporate communications at the Education Corporation of America which is the parent corporation for the Golf Academy of America. “At the Golf Academy of America we offer an education that not only prepares students for a job in the golf industry, but also life off the golf course. We hope students use their skills to inspire others like Pinkerton has.”

Offering a 16-month program of golf instruction and golf business management, the Golf Academy of America provides graduates with the education required to get the golf job they desire.

The Golf Academy of America leads the industry in golf education and features four campuses in major golf markets – Phoenix, Myrtle Beach, Orlando and San Diego. The GAA was founded in 1974 and is today accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS) and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), a national advocate and institutional voice for self-regulation of academic quality through accreditation.
